@telford_mike, thanks for the tip and I wish I'd read it before we set off. Ended up at Stechelberg and had to queue for 70 minutes for the cable car. Great skiing once we made it up there though!

Stechelberg is great if it’s quiet for a direct route to Birg but if the area is lacking in snow they all pile to Mürren and then it’s a long wait!!

Me too. I was down in Lauterbrunnen for a run along the valley. To be fair most of those people were travelling to Mürren on their transfer day rather than skiers going up for a slide. Better to ski in your chosen village on days like today.

Fresh powder when we left Grindelwald on Wednesday and plenty of snow down to Wengen too. We skied into the village three times in the last week and found conditions to be great.

Foggy everywhere below about 2000 metres today. Pistes good with a mixture of natural and artificial snow. Very quiet - the holidays are over.

telford_mike Was the Gummi Black open today. It wasn't in place for several years but made an unexpected come back last year. We're due to head over in 3 weeks time.

The first episode of a new series of Chris Tarrant's Extreme Railway Journeys is on Ch 5 tonight at 9pm. He travels on some of the highest and steepest trains that cross the Alps - I'm not certain but I think it will include a trip up to the Jungfraujoch!

Nice sunny day today, if a little cold at -12C at Scheidegg. The Europa Cup has come to town, and the first of 2 downhills took place this afternoon. They don't ski the full Lauberhorn course - the finish line is at the top of Bumps.
Clouding over this afternoon, wouldn’t be surprised if we get some snow later tonight. Temp in Wengen -3C.

Opted for First this morning hoping we would get some reasonable visibility.
We had one of the best powder days in several seasons. Top of Oberjoch was poor ( relatively ) wind compacted snow.
Lower down against Schilt and Grindel chairs the powder was fabulous. The itinary down to Bodmi was excellent, lots of cold snow all the way to town.

It started snowing while we were in the pub last night, and it hasn’t stopped since. Trains up to Scheidegg were suspended at around 10.30 this morning, and the whole mountain closed down at 2pm. Avalanche risk is 4.
