25cm of snow in Wengen and 50cm on the Lauberhorn, BUT this is early, do not be surprised if all or at least some melts before the start of the season, the forecast is for more snow still today but then a good few days of significantly warmer weather

The high-wire artist Freddy Nock celebrates its 50th anniversary with a special high wire event on the 10th December.
He is on the supporting cable of the Schilthorn cable car from the mountain station Birg (2677 m) to the Schilthorn (2,970 m) forward and backward, deliver with and without balancing pole and some with a custom-designed, light-proof helmet, so completely blind a breathtaking show ,

Yup he's planing on going Birg to Piz Gloria and back if I read things correctly without the use of a pole for at least some of it and with a helmet that has a built in blindfold if I understand the blurb correctly, personally I think he's mad !

I do hope they manage it, otherwise we're going to have all the holidaymakers plus the entire population of Canton Bern doing the Scheidegg circuit.

So guys, we're off to Murren in a couple of weeks, hopefully there'll be some more snow before then but I was wondering what's new?
Last year the long drag lift at the top of the Schiltgratt chair was closed, I guess this has been replaced by a chair lift?
I also saw on an earlier post that the button lift at Almendhubel was having work? Will this be a chair?
Finally, anyone know if there will be any live music in the village from 10th jan?
Cheers x

Thanks Chris, a bit disappointed the replacement for the drag is another drag! It's a flipping long one that one! Lol
Looking forward to a week with friends in The Eiger again and keeping fingers crossed for list more snow.

It's almost unbelievable, particularly as the track crosses the piste. Better than nothing though - when the Eggblaz t-bar went end of life in Wengen they just took it down and didn't replace it!

Yup always a bit of an odd decision that since if the Lauberhorn was shut due to high winds the only way up from the bottom station was the Eggblaz, I think they stopped it because it was hardly ever used, the one on plumb pudding was never replaced after storm winds ripped it apart (in the 60's I think) at the same time ripping the roof off the Wengeneralp Hotel

Went up for a ski today, sun out, looked good.
Very pleasant at Scheidegg, not crowded and felt mild even first thing. It rained right to the top yesterday, so the snow wasn't exactly perfect, but to be honest it was a lot better than I'd expected and there was good sport on offer. The only thing open below Scheidegg is the left-hand Arven piste. Above the tracks you can choose from the Lauberhorn piste back to Scheidegg or either of the Salzegg runs, including Schwarzen. Just 3 lifts open.
I saw the Riggli chairlift running this morning over at Murren, but I don't know whether there was any skiing on offer. Certainly nothing at Mannlichen or First.
Temp at Scheidegg +9C at 13.30 (yes, you read that right) ! Must have been at least 15C in the village this afternoon - we are sat at home with the balcony doors wide open at the moment.
We have 6 new panoramic carriages for the train on the Wengen side of the hill this season.
Forecast is for rain or snow tonight, then a couple of chilly, changeable days, then it's back to the spring temperatures next week.
Weird.

Pretty good up at Mannlichen today, less crowded than I expected. Weather still warm, tourist office have opened the mini-golf in the village! The cable-car building at the top has been substantially re-built. Village is getting quite busy now, Central Sport are doing at least as well as they did this time last season.

In conjunction with the ski school and the Schilthorn cableway they have been moving the snow from the side of the ice rink to the Bob run. Village runs will soon be open which will then open more lifts !

Went across to Murren today. First of all, hats-off to the Schilthornbahn, who kept a continuous service running up to Birg. We got the bus to the Schilthornbahn talstation and didn't have to wait for a single cable car on the way up to Birg.
Skiing at Birg was ok - very windy which meant the slopes were scoured of snow leaving mostly boiler-plate behind, with patches of quite deep snow where the powder settled. Temps very warm, was +8C at Murren. Schilthorn abfahrt closed - 'not prepared', which presumably means there were some holes in the piste. Piste conditions got worse the lower we skied, most people were just blasting up and down Riggli and not bothering with the other pistes / lifts.
The new Skyline walk doesn't look like much, but my god it's a long way down!
Everything below Birg was closed, but that's not really the whole story. This being Murren, folk are not discouraged by a few 'closed' signs and a complete lack of piste markers. Firstly, it was perfectly possible to ski from Almendhubel back to the village, and plenty of people were doing just that. The restaurant at Sonnenberg was doing good business. I also saw a few people returning to the village from Birg via the Kanonenrohr, though I would not recommend trying this unless you're super-confident.
Stopped for sustainance at Ye Olde Taverne at the cable-car station in Murren - awesome ribs and they have a donner kebab machine!
Very enjoyable day out.
