Good stuff Mike. Looking forward to Wengen and Murren for 3-days from the 17th. More updates would be great.

Ditto. That doesn't look too shabby. How were the temps? Sounds like they are able to blow snow at night, maybe?
Now to find a piste map so I can see where you were skiing!

Looks great.
Regrets I didn't *believe* and booked Murren.
Well, it was a bit out of budget - need to pay taxes in a few months and that story will be a thriller....

@Toadman, yes, they can make snow - it's comfortably below zero in the village overnight. The limiting factor is probably water in the reservoirs- it's been quite a dry autumn.

@telford_mike I think the state of Washington would happily donate a bunch of water to Switzerland right about now.
Four things we learned from rain measurements at Sea-Tac:
1. Since the beginning of October, there have only been nine days without rain
2. It has rained every single day of December
3. Average rain for November is 6.57 inches; rainfall for Nov. 2015 totalled 8.37 inches
4. December has already been really wet, notching 6.33 inches of rain as of Dec. 10, far surpassing the average for that time frame and even topping the monthly average. The average rainfall for Dec. 1-10 is 1.87 inches; the average for the month is 5.35 inches.

@telford_mike, are you still in Wengen? How we currently looking piste wise?

Yup, still here. It rained last night, but not too much. More pistes are opening each day - we now have the Moos piste which links Scheidegg with Fallboden, so you can ski a nice circular route from Scheidegg down to Wixi, up Lauberhorn down to Arven, up Eigernordwand etc etc.
You can also ski from Mannlichen to Scheidegg, which is great as there's only 1 train up to Scheidegg per hour this week.
No valley / village runs have been prepared yet. Suspect they're saving these up for the weekend.
And the beer is exceptionally good this year

Nice one @telford_mike, be there in a couple on days, can't wait. Rang the tourist office today and they said conditions up top are good. I wanted a more independent view though. Cheers.

It rained last night. A lot. We sat in Rocks and listened to it pounding down, then we ran down the street to Sina's for dinner, trying not to get soaked.
But the sun was peeping over the hill when we got up this morning, so up the hill we went. No sign of new snow at Mannlichen, and pistes were rock solid. We headed for Scheidegg.
Anything north-facing was pretty solid, but the sun began to work its magic and things slowly improved. Some bare patches where pistes meet, but nothing too dramatic.
Eiger and Monch, sugar coated.
After lunch things improved a lot. Nicest piste was Fallboden (deserted and almost perfect), but Lauberhorn was great too.
Eigernordwand lift was closed today - don't know why. The village is getting a bit busier, some hotels opening tomorrow, some on Saturday. If you're in town tomorrow night Colin and Steve (Duo Centrale) are playing in the Crystal bar from about 9pm. See you there:)

Skied at Wengen on Friday and all was rather good on the upper slopes, especially Fallboden as Mike says. Headed over to Grindelwald in the afternoon. It soon got christened GRIM-delwald! No snow except up around Oberjoch. Enough to keep you occupied for a couple of hours, but for me not worth the long trek to get there. Spent today at Murren which was splendid. Great conditions down from the Schilthorn and from Birg.

Great Christmas skiing here today - blue sky, crisp air, low temperatures, no queues. The pisteurs have done a fantastic job maintaining very good cover and could get to Holenstein and Allmend today, plus Honegg opened so with luck it should be possible to ski from Scheidegg to Mannlichen maybe even tomorrow. Preparations underway for the Lauberhorn race next month. And perhaps some snow by the year end - forever optimistic! Off to Murren tomorrow.

BLM service between Lauterbrunnen and Murren has been much improved, with cable-car / trains every 15 minutes for most of the day.
Warm again today, we had a barbecue!

@telford_mike, how was Birg today. Able to ski back down to Winteregg (via lifts)?

@Chris Brookes, was at Winteregg yesterday, all closed - Maulerhubel, Almboden and the Winteregg chair. Didn't go to Birg but others will have done - looks good on the pics I've seen.

Looks like a short cold snap should bring snow to the area over the next week with small amounts falling today at altitude and more from Saturday 2nd Jan, Unfortunately it currently looks like the warm weather may return on the 7th bringing rain (almost certainly at lower levels) but this may fall as snow higher up, a maximum of 70cm of snow over the next week is possible but more likely is half that.

Mixture of snow and rain falling in the village at the moment, temp is +3C. Lots of stuff going on for New Year, local band 'Hamschter' playing on the ice rink, fireworks later. Great excitement - Star Wars is on at the cinema on the 9th

@Chris Brookes, it looks a bit better than that today. Absolutely freezing on the Schilthorn. Not enough new snow to open any more runs, but what is open is good.

Mürren had 12cm of new snow last night. Fingers crossed for a lot more tonight. Please keep us posted Mike !

Lauberhorn slalom will be held on the lower section of the downhill course, starting at the Silberhornsprung:
It's not yet certain that the DH can run all the way to the finish, but things are looking promising.
