davidof, Thank you, I will try harder. I'm also rather concerned about my feet being too far apart, and not extending quite dynamically enough into the troughs (seriously, I am!). FYI, That was on La Leisse (Tignes) last December. Lovely snow, stonking conditions...

I'd say Tecnica Icons. I would put you in an Atomic M10, mondo 26, with a dual density thermoflex 10mm. Failing that i'd try and get you in either of the Rossi or the Lange plug shell with an injection liner. Both with something special under the foot, one with a little more discomfort but way more precision.

Now, were the M10s suggested as they'd match my ski pants (the gold version)? If so I now have black ones (boo hoo) so maybe a pair of black boots would be better?
Seriously though, isn't there rather a wide difference between M10s and plug boots? I'm surprised at the spread of recommendation.

Sorry Dave, but, i am that good. This coupled with your ski profile helped alot. Yep massive differece between 'Plug' and 'Commercial', but also a big commitment in time to get them right. Buy a plug, if, you have to get better or you'll die. It's like a relationship; commitment, nurture, listen, prepare to be wrong. But mostley, love it for the pain and the pay off. She's a bitch, but you love her and you'd never ski/be, without her.

I was joking of course, but ski instructors always come out with some crap to put you off your skiing :-). I will have to go there, the moguls don't look altogether straightforward. I know the style is to ski with legs clamped together in moguls but I wonder if this is all a throwback to yellow one piece ski suits, mullets and JCKilly?
I must admit that I never knowingly ski moguls so will have to give them a go next year, if I can find some nice "US" style ones.
I think it is instructive to watch some of what are considered expert big mountain skiers, this relates to a post by RobRar earlier. I was watching a vid yesterday - these guys probably haven't done a lesson since their last "classe neige" back in 8th grade. They make lots of, what may be considered, errors but boy, can they ski anything.

davidof, IMHO the top pitch is a lovely gradient, the lower pitch slightly steeper and trickier. The nice thing in December is that most people skiing there know what they're doing so the bumps are well shaped. If you want really, really nice bumps, the best ones I know of are the top half of "Renard" in Linga (Chatel) or the ones down the old poma track from Avoriaz to Lindarets. I am afraid I betray my PDS affiliation there though. It also suggests that you can find good ones anywhere if you look and think carefully.
Legs together is, IMHO, the way to ski them. It allows both legs to rotate together "on top" of each bump. Funnily enough, this technique - "avalement" - is well described in "We learned to ski" circa 1970 from the Sunday Times. Some things never change. AFAIK, bumps racers use this technique but at much higher frequencies and effort. It really is not a style thing but an efficiency/effectiveness thing. What I find funny is that if you watch Wayne Wong and friends around the early 70s, they have a much wider stance. I think (!) that was just cos the technique wasn't as well developed. Not that I would ever criticise those awesome guys.
Your point re big mountain is really interesting. I had a short day (much too short) with the totally awesome Stephen Skrobar of ID-Freeride. He's a fantastic upper level coach and I cannot recommend him too highly. We did a little work in bumps and the funny thing was that when he went what appeared to be flat out (probably cruising for him!) he was a little "rough around the edges" aesthetically speaking but was totally ripping the bumps in a way I have not seen before or since. If he wanted to I have no doubt that he could ski them at speed with the grace of an otter (cos obviously they ski bumps well) but when having fun...
I think watching vids is a great way of learning too, in fact I reckon I improve over the summer by watching vids!

You're a bit late to hunt them, about 11000 years. You can still shoot one, just go to Siberia and dig one up first, they're quite hard to miss at close range.

Sorry, I don't fit ANY of your numbers. 
I don't instruct. I don't race. I don't pay the bills; I pay to ski. I ONLY have good days on skis. I can ski any terrain well in any condition, with the possible exception of icy volkswagen beetles on steep pitches; I can ski these, but I have to ski them slowly( not at the speed a typical mogul competitor goes through snowy moguls). I do link my turns when the mood strikes me and do ski on hollidays without instruction, so maybe I'm a beginner /ntermediate.

I think a better question would be "where will you be using these boots and what exactly will you be doing?"
and "Please tell me what you want out of this boot".
I will be using the boot to ski along moderate blue trails making long lazy turns.
I will be using them in the slalom/GS/SG/DH race courses.
I will be immitating dowhill racers on the downhill runs in order to perfect my speed skiing.
I will be playing in moguls.
I will be instructing students on green hills all day long.
I will be helliskiing deep powder.
I want to be comfortable above all else, and a little quicker and firmer response would be nice.
I want my boot to instantly transmit any command I give my skis. I can't spare a millisecond in reaction time. I don't care if I have to take the boot off right after the DH race to keep from loosing my feet.
These answers tell me more about what boot is required than the skill level of the person using the boot.

As a newcomer to this forum I don't want to tread on too many toes (ok weak pun) but perhaps SZK while your real scale is probably better than the S+R you are probably preaching to the converted. If someone is interested enough to be on here they probably aren't afraid to ask for what they really need. The problem I think is too many supposedly specialist stores have under qualified staff e.g. in S+R boot dept the other week:
"Can I help you?"
"Have you got your tele boots in yet?"
"What do you mean?" (Looks like he's thinking boots for watching TV)
"Telemark boots"
"What are they? I've only been here a few weeks I don't know"
....retreats to climbing dept hoping to find someone with a clue
Its easier for them to train this guy to fit people by their scale if the customer says 6-7 he thinks £200-250 boot I guess.

Don't think so. I do ski alpine but am a newbie tele convert looking for whole new ways to blow money on gear  Wintersports become very expensive when you have 3(or 4) different disciplines of kit.
