I'm not telling you off. It is none of my business.
I'm just saying that establishing residence in France is going to bring you onto the radar.
I have some ideas about how to avoid French tax though based on how things work currently if anyone wants to go down that route.

I've effectively been here 5 years but for 3 I still had my place in UK but spent less and less time there. I've paid french tax back to the start of last year. Still waiting for carte vitale though, nearly 8 months

Well it is a big step to move tax regime. Once you Brits are at retirement age you should qualify for free healthcare though and be able to drop the expensive private health cover (although even the mutuels are quite expensive)

@davidof, I don't think the mutuelles are too bad, ~€50/month

Depends on the cover I suppose. €50/month is very cheap for an oap in the Hautes-Alpes, a bargain.

Hello! I am in the same position as you! I'm trying to figure out how I can obtain the following: A support certificate by an insurance offering the services mentioned in Articles L. 160-8 and L. 160-9 of the Social Security Code. I think this is some kind of health insurance, right? I'm in France but I don't have health insurance, so I will need to buy it to get the certificate. Is that correct? How will you be obtaining this insurance certificate? I would REALLY appreciate any help or advice!!

@Balthazar Margoose, the certificate is your policy document. You need to take out private health insurance and provide a copy of your policy document as proof of cover.
