Still snowing hard down in Montorlin. I would estimate that about 10cm has fallen down here.

Lots of new snow over night in Plagne Soleil.
Looks like its easing off now because I can see across Ecartee to Plagne Villages. However, the neither the Bergerie lift or the PV drags are running.

Hi there, we're flying tomorrow am and can't wait. I bought my first ever pair of skis and boots last month and really looking forward to trying them out. Our lift pass starts from Sunday but does anyone know if there are any 'free' slopes near Belle Plagne? I'd love to do a couple of hours on Saturday if at all possible and I heard there are some free runs available (I'm guessing just green but I don't care as I just want to get on that lovely snow! )
Still snowing here in PS. Some of my group are now heading out in the powder but I'll leave until tomorrow.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

4th day here in Champagny - excellent knee to thigh deep powder today and although limited to gondola & Bourselliers chair today there was plenty of fun to be had. Forecast shows more snow for tomorrow, but sun on new year's day which should be awesome (hangover depending).
Winds were howling up top, so take care as there'll be some nasty wind slab around...
Another night of snow fall in Montchavin - quick estimate is another 10cm at least. Still snowing hard now.

yes, that's very likely, but a day of rain does less damage than you might think. And with more snow forecast next week, shouldn't be any worry about snow cover (though plenty of other worries which will close chunks of the mountain around a lot of resorts).

rain at Champagny level, if it freezes hard in the net few days then the pistes will be closed, only went up for an hour today as it's wet and heavy, forecast to stay around 1 or 2 degrees for the next few days, so things are sluchy in Champagny village (and getting more so)

Great fun around Plagne Centre today as I sheltered from the worst of the blizzard.
Do Dou Praz from the back of PS down to the Bergerie lift was knee deep powder in places even on piste
Snow stopped about 15 mins ago meaning that for the first time today we can see from PS down to PC
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

They should rename Plagne Soleil 'Plagne Niege' this year
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

It felt very wet down in Montchavin this afternoon although it was still snow falling up at Dos Rond level at 3pm. There didn't seem to be much damage to the snow anywhere where I skied today I'm sure the conditions will be perfect over the next week.
You know it makes sense.
You know it makes sense.
Fresh powder and sunshine this morning - can't get better than that!
Stay as high as you can where the snow is nice and fluffy - there has been rain lower down over night making the snow a bit sticky. Some of the lifts which have been shut for avalanche risk over the last couple of days beginning to open now as they start to clear the areas.
Happy skiing!!
Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

Perfect weather today, sunshine and very little wind.
Fairly warm, so some of the lesser used pisted areas have become a bit icy (eg the Dou Du Praz round the back of PS) as the surface melts and refreezes.
Excellent conditions in the higher traffic areas. The drop down to the Bergerie lift was especially good. Most times I've skied down the last steep bit of Ecartee after the bridge, it's been either very icy (as it was this time last year) or heavy going (as it was after Friday's fall). Today it was ideal.
This is our last day and my skiing's now over for the trip, due to having just lost a battle with a short section of off piste part way down Mira and jarring my hip clambering out of a drift.
Anyone coming out next week should be in for a treat.

Fantastic day, beautiful conditions up high, hit le bosses towards champagny first thingish and have never seen so much powder on a piste, was above my knees! Only a few others had tracked it as well, surprised it was open! Definite lesson learned that my leg fitness is nowhere near up to that sort of deep!
After that we decided to see champagny since we had never before, but to be honest it is little more than a route to village, must be a nightmare end of day.
Rest of day was spent messing about that side of the area, great skiing, but must say I think the weather could do with cooling down a bit, things got trickier as the day went on!
Snow coming tomo so we will see what that brings, if we can get there might head over to vallandry trees, unless anyone has better suggestions!
What a difference a year makes!

Got an e-mail from the liftpass office today - 3m64cm of snow in La Plagne in December which must be some sort of record!!
Talking of liftpasses, did they get the card readers on the Arpette chair working properly today ?
They had to close it yesterday because the reader wouldn't work. Staff were just letting Moch/Coch and Les Arcs people up after manual checks meaning that a large area was off limits to the rest of us.
I'm now back home in the UK, but will be stopping by the thread occasionally.
Have fun out there
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

ukredsox, that was happening when I was there before crimbo! They just let everyone thru with no checks then which seems best
Was working fine today, obviously got it fixed, good thing!
Great day today as far as snow conditions went at decent altitude, loads of it about, we headed over to Les Arcs for part of the day which was decent but things were fantastic here when we got back. Visoibility tho.... Not so much!! Apparently conditions lower down in La Plagne were actually pretty good early on according to a few others, towards montalbert, must confess I'm a bit sceptical, les Coches was a bit slushy.
Tomorrow shows loads of potential, looks like a blue sky, so should be fantastic.
Decided I will probably book a couple of lessons with reflex for some off piste exploration, anyone any experience with them? Also anyone know if there is any chance of le derochoir opening? Or for that matter any of the piste natur runs off of biollet lift? Half of the reason I came back!!
Then you can post your own questions or snow reports...

Conditions look great on the webcams today, lovely blue skies and loads of snow. 300 cms of snow at 3200 metres and 150cms at 2000 metres with skiing down to all the villages, must be one of the best starts to a season ever.
Standee, Hope the journey home went well.
It was good to meet you out there, it's amazing who you meet in the gondola out of Champagny. On our last day I was in the gondola talking to a Dutch guy who turned out to be the son of the people we bought our apartment from.
Did you manage a trip into La Plagne for New Years eve or did you stay in Champagny and watch the fireworks in Courchevel?
We had an interesting journey back to Chambery on Saturday morning, after digging the car out at 7:30am we had a slow journey down very snowy roads to Moutiers, fortunately the winter tyres coped with it.
Did you make it back without the need of the snow chains or CDW excess?

Beautiful blue sky day today, headed over first thing towards les coqs as the I internet claimed it was open, only to find it shut, very annoying!fortunately paisembleu was open, unpisted and great fun. Irritating though that all day the signs lit green to say that les coqs was open, but repetitive checks showed that not to be the case.
Also the glacier showed up as open late in the day, but only the lift was marked as open, and all the runs marked closed! Clearly not right but didn't really have time to get there as was down near montalebert by the time I saw it, so nothing lost I guess!
Planning on heading to the glaciers in the am in the hope of taking derochoir down then across to les arcs for a few hours, anyone with any suggestions for les arcs please do share!
Conditions are great, with a little more snow forecast for tonight, then loads for Thursday- if you are heading this way it is time to get excited!

SkiG, If you go down Derochoir to get to Les Arcs DO NOT go beyond Chalet Friolin take the Bauches chair back up.
Beyond Bauches the track is 2km of flat road. This year they have put up a sign saying go up Bauches chair to go towards Les Arcs!

The piste map needs revising in this area I think as said road is marked as a blue piste IIRC

we went to Tignes for NYE, was brilliant, made it to Champagny without issue and then IT ALL WENT BREASTS NORTH!!!
Jet2 pilot couldn't land in Chambery (Titan and BA pilots were managing fine!!) bussed to Lyon after a 4 hour wait, then no information at Lyon for 4 hours until finally told that the crew can't fly now as their hours were up, sent to a hotel nearbye with no info (again), different people given the same letter with 3 different times on them (6:15,8:15 and 10:15) eventually took off at 10:30, no in flight food as Jet2 don't fly out of Lyon and then the final straw was a practical crash landing at Leeds.
needless to say, we will not be using Jet2 again!
You know it makes sense.

Woke to pouring rain in Champagny this morning, but this quickly turned to snow, and when the sun broke through at lunchtime found some excellent powder in the trees over the back of the Arpette - care needed though, as we triggered a small slide which took my mate off his feet....
OMG! that looks amazing. Girlfriend and I are off out there Monday
Any other recommendations for non-guided at least semi off-piste action in La Plagne?
cheers

Either side of Les Inversens piste is usually good, just down from Roche de Mio and turn right at the Inversen cafe / restaurant.

No need to worry about finding off-piste next week: it's snowing non-stop and more forecast tomoz. before clearing in readiness for what looks like a bluebird week next week
The runs off the Arpette are great, as you can pick loads of adventurous routes which always meet the cross-country track between Bellecote & Montchavin (some poling/skating required depending how far you drop down)
The most obvious is into valley off the top of the Arpette/Salle lift, but everyone does that so it's worth the short traverse on the front-side (S.) of the Arpette to the next col & drop into the next valley.
Have fun, but take care with the amount of snow that's fallen...

Ditto this: another short but fun route is to follow the obvious line of telegraph poles into a hidden valley in between the Inversins and the blue Tunnel piste.
If you're into a bit of excitement and don't want to take the cable from the Roche de Mio to the glacier mid station: if the conditions are safe there's normally an opening in the fence (ignoring the falling rocks signs ) just before you ski to the Inversins restaurant: an easy first section but important to make a left turn after a few 100yds into a nice mellow wide couloir and down to the Chalet de Bellocote chair - don't follow any tracks heading straight on as they'll be pretty extreme skiers into some seriously steep couliors.

+1, Had fun here even in fairly marginal conditions last year.
You can get a really good look at the terrain from the chair before you try it. Unfortunately so can everyone else!!
Conditions currently ridiculous in La Plagne - the drifting is so bad in 1800 that I had to call a friend to clear the drifts outside my front door so that I could get out!
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Another popular route worth mentioning - from Roche de Mio head towards the black (Mio) from the Carella lift, then follow the track along the ridge (airy but fun) and a short rising traverse below Le Tougne into the back valley which then comes out on a track to the right, by the restaurant at the start of the Rossa lift

Massive snowstorm last night - haven't got an accurate fall amount yet but basically loads!
Much of the La Plagne domain shut today as they make it avalanche safe. The liftpass office write:

Snow and Sunshine, The latest La Plagne snow report shows between 55 to 60cms of fresh snow. Current snow depths are 360cms at 3200 metres and 215 cms at 2000 metres.
Any idea of the road conditions between Chambery and Moutiers or between Moutiers and Champagny?
I am due in Chambery tomorrow lunchtime so any information would be useful.

skichampcouk, Albertville to Moutiers was really bad yesterday according to my dentist this morning, but Bison Futé is showing all clear just now. Due to ease off this afternoon as well so should be OK. Roads up the hill are still 'interesting' though...

offpisteskiing, Thanks for that, I'll have winter tyres and snow chains so should make it up the hill. Hopefully they'll have cleared some of it by then.
