Other half reports power cuts in Niederau this morning and lots of people stuck on the lifts for the last hour. Son #1 is supposed to be racing there today, but they currently can't get to the start!

flangesax, is this this picture taken near or at Schladming? We are going in three weeks time and I am feverishly watching the webcams in an attempt to establish how much snow has fallen, but it is difficult to tell.

Herr Hefski, that picture is from radstadt town, just down the valley from schladming. Don't worry about the snow,I left schladming before xmas and there was decent amounts. Since then there's been piles of fresh snow.I arrive back in schladming tomorrow, just above town.

Ah ok thank you. I'll be looking forward to trying out the new chairlift over on Haus this time, as that is one of my favourite areas of the region. We climbed the mountains behind that area in the summer and it will be interesting to access some of that area now that the run is higher. I always enjoy looking at the pictures you post and I hope to post some of my own when we are there.

Update - Niederau power was restored and skiers got off lifts in time for the race to be completed ok. But more power cuts this evening.

Okanagan, Power back on now (after a candle-lit dinner!), but local roads are still suffering. Guests who left here art 4pm for a 9pm flight from Munich still haven't got past the pizza bar on the edge of the village - so in around 4 hours they've travelled all of 800 yards! If they don't make it down the hill in the next half an hour, they are coming back for another night and will try again tomorrow.

flangesax, I recognise my windscreen wipers peeking out from the pile of snow that is my car! Funny how much dumped in one night, seeing as your OH had cleared it off completely yesterday!
Has Geepee dug out his Audi yet or is it still being buried?

Ok so today was the best day I've ever had in my life, mayrhofen has been well and truly dumped on!! Waist deep pow off the sides. Skied the harikiri today, it was closed which meant powder every where the tree runs at the side were unbelievable. Any one coming soon you are in for a treat!!!!!!!!

Just got back to Innsbruck The snow here is even more mental. Pavements are under four feet of snow. The roads are single lane as they've only been able to keep the centre clear. Trees falling over from the weight of snow on their branches. Waist deep in the (sheltered) garden. I can't imagine what it must be like on the top of the mountains atm. It's insane. Like the shots from Japan powder porn ski videos. And it's still snowing - not just snowing, but DUMPING. Should continue 'til Wednesday apparently, then a new storm will blow in from Sunday.
This is once in a lifetime snow conditions - book your flights to Austria/Switzerland NOW. All the Nordstau regions are getting hammered, and now some of the more southerly regions too - was snowing in the Salzkammergut pretty heavily as we left today. Roads were sslooooooowww. Head somewhere in line with St Anton/The Arlberg or North(ish) of there and you're laughing. Maniacally. Stay away from the high alpine unless you have a death wish, but trees below 2000m = mindblowing.

nozawaonsen, at Axamer Lizum I think. Apparently they don't think it's avi-related. Maybe tree well?
Sad anyway, but hoping he's still ok!

With regards to the boy lost at Axamer Lizum, the report says that there are 3 metres of snow there and I imagine that, if you are off the piste, you could well run into drifts where it would be difficult to get back up after a fall. Not good.
Another story reports that a man died in Maria Alm after having left the piste in poor visibility. Then he fell and wasn't able to get up. The police suspect that he suffocated in the snow.
Tonight's report from Fieberbrunn is a repeat of yesterday's: cleared my drive of about 50 cm today and now there's about another 50 cm on it this evening. Tomorrow looks like being another sweaty day!

Skiing St Anton, there is more powder here than I've ever seen. Today at least a meter of fresh stuff, skiing off piste when it finally opened at noon, first tracks all over especially in the trees (where it's safe) and jumping off avalanche breaks!
It doesn't get much better than what we have here!
This link is updated daily: http://gratefulfrog.blogspot.com/2012/01/st-anton-powder.html
