Hi all, looking for some advice.
We used to ski 2/3 times a season, driving from Hertfordshire to various ski resorts in France, staying for a week at a time.
However we moved after retiring to Ireland in 2016 and therefore have only managed a 1 week trip in 2017 and again this year we are doing just 1 week.
We have just bought a 7 metre motorhome and are looking to take it on a skiing tour probably Mid March 2019-April 2019
Can anyone who has done this give me a list of resorts that have proper motorhome sites, that have hook up, water and waste disposal. Plus any other useful advice. ( I know about snow tyres/chains !!!!! ) and we had extra insulation and lagging fitted when we bought the van as we told the sales people we were planning on taking it skiing.
Also would be taking the dog, so any vets near Calais recommendations please

Loads of sites- this site is a bit dated but is useful- motorhomeski.com- look for caravaneige on google- almost every resort has a campsite that's open for skiing- we have regularly used Val Cenis, Samoens, Le Grand Bornand, and La Clusaz! All have all the facilities you need; some with indoor pools as well...

Samoens has both a motor home aire with hook up, and a dedicated site, both are just opposite the main telecabine up. We walked it every day with 3 small children and all their kit plus ours.
Bourg St Maurice has a camp site with hard standing and hook ups for motor homes, pretty close to both supermarket (walk across the road) and the funiculaire (easy walk without ski boots, we stored ours at the ski shop at the bottom of the funiculaire, or take the free navette).
Grand Bornand and Les Clusaz, both have sites with indoor swimming pools. The first is a drive or take the navette to the ski lifts, the second we nebver stayed at so I don`t know.
Les Contamines has a large car park motor homes used, and a dedicated site with an easy stroll of the cabine up.
Les Saisies has a couple of sites.
Pralognan La Vanoise has the very best site for beautiful views but its a bit of a twisty ascent to it. Its adjacent to the cross country ski route but a bit of a walk to the main lifts, although there was a free private bus a couple of times a day.
There is a site at La Rosiere but the one time we thought about using it we arrived in a blizzard and settles for staying down in BSM.
There are some in Austria and Germany too. For France simply google caravaneige and you will get plenty of results.
Useful tips?
If you don`t have waste disposal use a bucket not a wastemaster. You can empty a frozen bucket you can not do the same with a wastemaster   On pitch drainage may not be viable when there is snow everywhere and everything is frozen.
Leave some form of heating on frost guard all the time (small low wattage fan heater did the trick for us) Always have more than one source of heating available.
We never found winter water hook ups (too difficult in freezing conditions maybe) but that may have changed
Insulate everything more than you think you could possibly need, we have experienced -20 overnight temperatures.
A slow cooker left on whilst you are out skiing can provide a very welcome quick meal at the end of the day, and most supermarkets now stock ready prepped veg to sling in with the meat.
It can be easier to camp in snow (so at higher sites) than in rain and mud!
Any kind of steeply (so's not to collect snow) sloped porch awning is a wonderful transition area between foul outside weather and cosy van interior.
Just the thoughts off the top of my head  Though we skied form the caravan not a motor home, we met plenty of folk with their motorhomes. Hope you have lots of fun!

@Timbobaggins, are you only interested in French alpine motorhome sites, or other countries as well? Many of us snowheads who've been to the Sella Ronda know that there is a large motorhome/caravan site between Corvara and Colfosco.

Brilliant, thanks all. Got a March trip this year to Alpe D'Huez, driving from Ireland, ferry Rosslare to Cherbourg, staying in a chalet, however this gives us lots of ideas for 2019. Many many thanks.

Les Deux Alpes has an aire as you enter the town, it does have electric and toilets . Not sure of the cost . It is the coach park so may be quite busy in March. We take our 7m motorhome to a beautiful campsite in Venosc just below L2A and catch the cable car up each day. The campsite has all the usual facilities and a sauna. It is called Champs du Moulin. Worth a look. The roads are usually totally clear of snow too. We are gong back for the 4th time this Easter.

Champ is under new management, doing a fab job. They kept the restaurant open last year for our Easter stay which was lovely. Can’t wait to go back again. The village of Venosc is so sweet and charming too with a pottery, craft, gift shops and some lovely restaurants.

There is one in Les Meniures in the the 3 Vallees. €11 a night. Our neighbours went up between Xmas and New Year

For those that have used any of these sites, did you book in advance or just turn up. Also what months in the ski season did you go.

We always left home with an idea of which area we were headed to given what we knew about the snow conditions in each area. Then as we got a couple of hours away we phoned to see if the site had room. They usually did, Xmas weeks, half term and Easter school hols were our usual trips, but thats some time ago.
Once we could not get through by phone (La Clusaz at Xmas) and they were full! However they recommended the site at Grand Bornand and phoned ahead for us to make the reservation.
The sites were definitely getting busier as the years progressed and others may have a more up to date knowledge

Discount for booking ahead at Bourg st Maurice - book by 31/10, may have even been 20% but that sounds too much.
Cost here is around 25 euros a night but includes ehu. Not yet been on a Austrian site that didn't charge per kilowatt.
We bring our two dogs so choose places with good walking - mayrhofen campsite backs onto the woods as does soell. Vets around Calais are expensive, with a 24 - 120 hour window you are better off during it in the town you are staying, or en route home.
Buy cheap fabric muzzles from, eg eBay, to stick in your pocket as some Austrian cantons require dogs to be muzzled on public transport.

If you rely on LPG for heating bear in mind Austria doesn't have many outlets - we cut short our stay in St Anton because with minus 20 deg C for 10 days we ran out. Or you could get gaslow (type)adapter to use local bottles.
