Silently stalking the thread for a few days now , outlook is looking good , considering blowing some money on a new year trip , i'm assuming they have kept some areas closed due to it being quiet and not poor snow conditions?

Madloch and Muggengrat in Lech, and Rendl in St.Anton are typically closed in early season.
Warth will open this weekend.

@dye, snow great for time of year. Sitting in new Stooberl at Mooserwirt watching blizzard outside and having a refreshing beer. Not enough footfall to open the full area (much quieter here than Ischgl).

Now watching a bunch of helpful English gents trying to push the Bäcker Ruetz Van back up the access road to the Moose. Keeps sliding down the hill in the snow. Good job.

@nozawaonsen, whats the new stooberl. new addition? or a new place?

@mcg, posh bar upstairs at Mooserwirt. Nicely done. Only snag is the door opens outwards onto the outside stairs which has the potential to send people flying. Given there are big picture windows this could be quite funny though.

My wife and I were there last year and for 2 large beers I think I only change (coins) back from a 20€ note.

@stanton, ha they are certainly trying to see how far you can push the supply demand curve. Fair to say there are plenty of cheaper places...

Beautiful Morning to make some fresh turns ...

Yesterday morning was outstanding. Blue skies, cold and fresh snow from the night before. Perfect corduroy pistes and light powder. Pretty much deserted too. Flat light and milder weather arrived by afternoon, but still a very fine morning for racing round the Arlberg.

Anyone got a view on how likely the wind is to affect play at the weekend?

@Guernseyfreerider,
Those are some nice restaurants already.
For a splurge: Post-Stuben in Gasthof Post
Also very good, and low key: Alpenblick in Zug (locals' favorite)
Fantastic Gondola's is just one night

@Langerzug, in other traffic news there was also a Geisterfahrer on the Schnellstraße yesterday between St Anton and Pians. I don’t know what it is about Austrian road design that seems to encourage this but I’ve never come across it happening as much as it does here.

@hollando, strong winds have potential to shut down tops lifts such as Valfagehrbahn (which was running yesterday) and Valluga (which was being tested yesterday) as well as the Flexenbahn (running yesterday) - which works very well when there is no one in town...

@nozawaonsen, Combination of factors probably; difficult road-construction because of limited space in valleys, alcohol is also definitely a thing in the mountains...gloomy winters, depressions.
Hard to imagine for us tourists, but is there for sure. (Think the alcohol-ban in Scandinavia; also because of the severe and dark winters)

One more question: how likely is the flexenpass to remain open on Friday?

Very true actually, I can't drive anywhere without the radio mentioning a geisterfahrer somewhere in Austria (normally seems to be Niederöstereich - high on sugar beet?). Do any other languages have a dedicated name for someone driving the wrong way?

@clarky999, Dutch: spookrijder.
@hollando, The days that the Flexenpass is closed are getting less and less (due to avalanche galeries mainly).
Would not expect it this friday already anyway, since snow is coming in the course of friday. It takes quite some snow! Current forecast does not suggest anything like that

Well, you are right! A lot of geisterfahrer in Austria, and the most in Niederösterreich.
363 cases on 8,7 million inhabitants (Netherlands: 140 on 17 million; quite remarkable, but probably partly explained by the fact the Dutch use their bicycle much more (no joke!))
