Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Been very busy so know time to even look at the webcams for a while. Had a quick look earlier today and all the lower slopes look rather green again, although it also looks quite cold which is good for when it will snow next. Nothing much forecast right now, but maybe later next week. The higher slopes have a little covering which is a good sign so fingers crossed for the next week to lay down a base. Only just over 3 weeks until the slopes open. Remember anyone wanting the discounted season pass, you need to buy it before the end of November. Very Happy

Just been chatting with someone over in Les Arcs and they say it looks like there may be snow on the way. Hope so. I just had a look at the web cams and it does look very grey. Remember, if you want to buy a discounted season ski pass, you must do so by 30 November so hurry up.

Only just over two weeks to go, maybe it is time to start doing the snow dance. Not much below 2500m right now. But the forecast is for colder weather again Twisted Evil .

Here is a picture looking down from the Grand Motte in Tignes towards Les Arcs a few weeks ago. I hope the fresh snow they are expecting stays.

Thanks Allanm for explaining how posting pics works. I had forgotten.

I pointed out on the La Plagne thread how different the web cams are for the English and French versions of the website, on checking Les Arcs it goes one better. The English ones don't work at all and have less. God they love the tourist market in France.

Russeh, i agree, Les Arcs need a kick up the !! to get this sorted out. I always use the French link, but they are never really interested letting the holiday makers know what it is really like in case you see when the conditions are bad. Two years ago they turned them off completely until pressure was put to turn them back on. Twisted Evil

Plenty of snow now and more to come from the look of the forecast. Should be good for the start of the season as long as it stays cold. Very Happy

snowcrazy, to be honest i just think the websites been poorly put together, rather than some marketing tact.

good to hear the conditions are building nicely, its 8 weeks today untill our trip so i'm sure there will be more snow between now and then.

Russeh, I agree with you on this point, but they never have everything sorted out correctly on the English web page and it seems they do not really care. They also always play catch up with everything that they put on the English web page. It is really annoying that they do not try to make sure the English is correct or that all the info they publish is added to the both pages. It does not make them look very professional. With all the professional English speaking computer people around Bourg these days it would not be hard to employ one of them to do this work correctly. I think I shall copy my comment here to the Tourist office and see if they take any notice this season. Some chance!! Toofy Grin

snowcrazy, the problem is they will out source the up-keep of the website to a thrid party company who will then need to translate any content to x language which will be a cost each time, its quite hard to keep moving content in sync. Having said that looking at it they do seem to be using a CMS which would suggest they probably have the means to do their own updates directly, so they should have no excuse Laughing btw there is very little money in this sort of thing, i know becuase i use to run a web development agency for 5 years. But yeah you're quite right its not very professional at all, although ski resports in general arnt very professional anyway.

SNOW down to the valley. Even if the lifts are still closed, if this keeps up you will be able to use the road up the mountain and then ski back to Bourg just like last season. Time for the fun to begin!! Very Happy I am very happy! Toofy Grin Will try to post some pics later. Madeye-Smiley

Also some other news.

The Red Bull Linecatcher @Les Arcs - 12 au 19 janvier 2013 event. This is an extreme Free ride comp. Should be fun! Take a look at the link.

The snow is still falling, it looks like it is going to be another mega dump just like last year if the forecast for the next few days is correct. Toofy Grin

Is anyone else going to be around this weekend and fancies a ski/snowboard. I have skins and snowshoes so we can get up to the top of the mountain. Maybe we could even hitch a ride on a scooter or snowmobile. Very Happy If this snow does keep falling we could just drive up the road and ski back to Bourg. There are quite a few different routes to use if the snow is deep enough Evil or Very Mad

Arctic Roll, yep, this was a problem at the start of last season as well. At least you can get to Arc 1600 and 1800 today.

Some people I know came down under the Funi from Arc 1600 to Bourg already. Very fun!! Toofy Grin

More snow in Bourg now as well, so it should last a while as long as it stays cold.

Here is a link you might like if you want to learn about the new gear for this season. They do a very good Ski review and it is free. Very Happy

snowcrazy, I'm heading to the paradiski (les coches) over xmas and new year and wondering how easy it is to get to ste foy from villaroger and into the 3v from champagny? are their buses or would a taxi be reasonable. We will have a motor, but prefer not to drive for the adventure and so we can all have beer as well.

Mt, Staying in Les Coches you will have very easy access to the Vanoise and skiing Les Arcs and La Plagne, 460+km of psite, do you really need to visit another ski resort?

thefatcontroller, we're there for two weeks and i've never skied ste foy before. Although it looks quite small on the piste map i've heard people say it has some great off piste. so before i book a week there i thought it would be nice to take a look around. i've skied 3v many times, but i fancy the challenge of trying to get across the valleys and back. might not be possible, but we did the four valleys from meribel one christmas day and managed to get a drink in each resort so i think it may be possible.

Mt, You can catch a bus from Champagny to Brides les Bains and take the gondola up from there or you can catch the same bus and get off earlier at Bozel then take the free bus up to Courchevel. Probably a bit of a faff on the bus (timetables for the Champagny to Moutiers bus at www.altibus.com), a lot easier by taxi but not sure how much that would cost you.

There is a snowhead in Bozel who offers transfers called theskibug ( I think that is his snowhead name but just google it for his website), he could give you a price.

Difficult unless you have pre-booked taxis - villaorger is a no horse town kind of place, and whilst down and up to st. foy is not that far by road, you could be waiting a while.
