Poster: A snowHead
|
Post Script :
We had a lovely meal at Fana Ladina on Friday evening. Not the cheapest but in my eyes definitely good value.
Alma (proprietress at Fana Ladina) confirmed that the new building work on the centre of SV is to provide a mix of office accommodation plus holiday accommodation plus a large restaurant. She didn’t regard a large restaurant as a bad thing even though it would be in competition to her. She commented that if there is to be more accommodation and so more guests, then the infrastructure would need to step up a gear to provide for more people.
As we left SV to drive to Bergamo we did notice that a new road is being built and a new tunnel made which should reduce the current bottleneck from SV to the main Pustertal road.
On the Saturday we joined the queue to the Pustertal road but managed to sidestep this significantly by heading off to Reischach and we spent the morning at Cron4.
Daughter tells me that it is Cron4 and not Kron4.
Whichever.
A very pleasant swim in (very) warm water outdoors.
Granddaughter discovered the delights of the water slide.
And by the time we joined the road to the Brenner motorway after lunch the queues had gone.
A drive to Bergamo and an evening out for a meal. Flying home tomorrow.
There may be another’s PS added to this report. That will be about the car hire. We shall see.
We have decided that we will come back at February half term in 2023. It will coincide with Fasching. It will be busy. But granddaughter will be 12, just a couple of weeks before her 13th birthday. And a good opportunity to introduce her to a little bit more education.

…….or are you just glad to see me?
Forgot to pack ski socks on one trip some years ago and bought these in resort. Price was ok. Lots of different coloured panels / thicknesses / stretch / etc
I’m happy to say no dirk, just a black panel.
Some years ago at the rugby we went into a pub at the Grassmarket and were asked if we had a sgian dubh
I’m not precious about distinguishing between them but I think if it’s in your sock it’s a sgian dubh

Thanks for this report. I quite like the look of Kronplatz so you’ve really encouraged me to head out there at some point.

@pam w, I can’t think of an inappropriate but clean reply so I will shut up.
@Pen Eira, give it a try. But if you can manage a flight to Innsbruck or better still, Bolzano, then do that. Otherwise make the journey a part of the holiday and have a night out in Munich / Verona / wherever

Just a note as I have friends who usual catch the train from Verona (usually to Bolzano for the val di fassa )..but this goes on to Brixen ..from there there is a bus to SanVigilio

@DaveD, that’s useful. Thanks. A chap who has joined us there a few times has travelled by train but tends to go to Fortezza / Franzenfeste and then changes trains to Brunico / Bruneck and bus from there. But that bus stops at Longega / Zwischenwasser and we then pick him up from there rather than him wait for a connecting bus.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@DaveD, there is a connecting bus but I don’t know whether there is a wait for that. I do know that there is a notice board with names and numbers of local taxi firms. San Vigilio is only 4 kms up the valley.

@JHS...Every 3 hours so a taxi might be preferable

You know it makes sense.

I was just in Kronplatz at 05/02 to 12/02, also staying in San Vigilio. Have had several trips to Selva, Arabba, Corvara & Madonna, but this was our first time to Kronplatz. I was toying with writing a TR, but @JHS, has done a wonderful job whilst I was procrastinating.
Really enjoyed it. I think the skiing is better than the skiing on the main Sella Ronda circuit. Lots of long, wide runs (long runs can be scarce on the main circuit). Good variety of grading. Some of the blues are quite steep in places, in comparison with other Dolomiti grading, but they are so wide that this isn't a problem for early skiers. Some lovely long reds and some long blacks with proper steep sections.
Agree that the views aren't as scenic as the Sella Ronda and, if you haven't been to the Dolomites before, I would say to stick to the main circuit for the proper WOW experience for that first visit. But, if you have already been to the area a few times, then I think it is well worth checking out.
