@Sarge McSarge, it can really vary, especially in February! Generally -5 to -10 I'd say. It can get colder, down to -15 or so in Niseko, although the further into Feb you get, the less likely it'll be that cold. In Furano it'll be colder than Niseko. It can get down to -20 or so, but again, less likely later in the month.
A decent facemask/balaclava is useful. Especially if you're planning on getting faceshots!

@MagSeven, Thanks for the info. Our visit is in the first half of the month so I guess we will bring kit for -20. Really looking forward to my first Japow experience

We had some snow on Tuesday and Wednesday. Up to 30cm in Asahikawa area and probably more in the mountains. Some friends scored some early turns at Canmore ski hill, close to Asahidake.
We were hiking this weekend in the Hidaka mountains, up around 1,000m with views of bigger 1,800m+ mountains, but no sign of snow on them yet (South Central Hokkaido)
It looks like we should get some snow from Thursday next week. A few ski areas are scheduled to open next weekend, so keeping fingers crossed, but not overly optimistic. Hopefully we'll get enough new snow over the next 2 weeks for the main opening weekend of most ski areas on Nov 22/23rd....

Great shot.
Yeah looking touch and go for 21 November at Kiroro.
But as we both know, 2-3 days of snow on Hokkaido and it's on like Donkey Kong

Not yet.
Planning on heading over early next week for Opening Day on 21st.
But it looks like it could warm up between now and then.
Waiting on the call to see if Opening Day is realistic or will it be pushed back.
Will let you know.

20-30 cm at the base of Kiroro today (14th). Closer to 50 cm up top.
Patrol and grooming crew cautiously optimistic that the resort will be ready for Opening Day on Friday 21 November.
Fingers crossed for you for turns this weekend.

We didn't get quite as much snow as expected this week. Sapporo Teine has been doing ok though and actually brought it's opening day forward to today (Friday). I believe Kiroro and Sapporo Kokusai opened today too as planned.
Looks like Niseko has postponed their opening until next weekend. (And I think Rusutsu too)
We're heading up to Teine this weekend. Saturday looks like we'll get some rain, but Sunday and Monday (public holiday) look like they'll be ok. Temperatures will drop again next week, although there isn't a huge amount of snow on the forecast.....

Yep.
Only two runs on offer at Kiroro today, but the snow was surprisingly good.
Soft corduroy and toe tickling powder on the fringes.
Warmed up around lunchtime. Snow then light drizzle for 10 mins then back to light snow.
Great to be back on skis

Things not going so well at Teine. Open today but closed as of tomorrow until they get more snow. A fair bit of rain came down today and the base was very thin. Not much more in the forecast for next week, and a nasty warm spell around Thursday. Buqger.
Today at Teine. Even though the snow was slow and wet, we had a fun few hours on empty trails when the sun appeared.

Not much new snow to report over last week. Other than Kiroro, Kokusai, and Kurodake (maybe having a name starting with 'K' helps.....?!) everywhere has delayed their opening days.
On Monday night the weather changed and finally the cold air and snow arrived. Snow in most parts of Western Hokkaido yesterday and overnight, which is forecast to continue until the weekend. By which time a decent base should have built up and we'll be able to get the season started again!

Sick photo!
As expected, our snow at Teine was nowhere near as good as that! It was windy yesterday too, so the morning was spent building a jump as the main lift was on wind hold. The afternoon was fun, with boot deep powder and clearing skies.
The snow has been falling heavily to the north of Sapporo (around us!) so Yubari and Kamui etc will hopefully have started to get a decent base by now. Our town hill looks like it should open soon, judging by the amount of snow I had to clear from around my place this morning!
Put together some video from the weekend:

Been a decent week for snow here in Central. It's snowed more or less non stop since the weekend, giving us enough for the local hill (Iwamizawa Greenland) to open. Mount Racey over at Yubari opened yesterday too.
It's kind of raining at the moment though, but still cold, so in the hills this will be snow. Nice heavy snow that should crush down the sasa bamboo and make a lot more of the off piste accessible.
I got upside down too yesterday. (Bit of a personal hurdle that one, after breaking my hand on a frontflip on opening day last year!)
