I've had a couple of claims this summer with MPI. One for lost glasses and the other for physio back in the UK due to an injury sustained abroad. I was a little surprised I was covered for either but they agreed to pay up for both, small amounts really. Their loss adjusters are pretty useless though, very slow, but I think they are making changes there.
They wouldn't give me an annual multi trip this year covering a 5 month ski trip within it. Not surprised really but a seasonnaire policy was reasonable and seperate policies for summer trips won't be too bad either.

I've just renewed with Insure&Go. The gold policy cost us just over £100 for family of 4 Europe-wide include racing. We'll go over their 24 days, but they only count days when you are actually skiing and they said they could add extra days on if (when) we go over. The cost compares very well with the £250+ that we paid last year and that was with only elder son racing - need to cover younger son for that too this year.
The only thing I really care about on the insurance is medical cover - we generally drive and self-cater and are careful so prefer to self-insure. If anyone did a medical-only policy I'd be quite happy.

I've made small to medium claims without issue but yes they do stick rigidly to their Ts&Cs. e.g. must have receipts, taxi from Val d'Isere to Bourg hospital covered but not the taxi back. Always paid promptly too. Either I've been lucky or you've been unlucky. I'm happy to continue using them as long as their Ts&Cs are clear.

@RobW, I & Go : If you have an accident you MUST go to the public hospital - we went where the slopeside clinic sent me and it took seven months to get the medical fees back - and then only when they could not prove that they had not told my husband that I should go to / be moved to a public hospital. I had asked for the phone tapes / transcripts many times and was going to the ombudsman before they paid up.
Separate summer claims caused by sudden illness took 4 months to be paid - and it was a good job that we had sent the claim registered post, as they tried to say they'd not got it because we hadn't got a claim no. yet !

At £925 when including race cover ??? They are seriously taking the Michael. And even then I don't like their race cover restrictions.
And yes I fully understand they want you to go to a public hospital if possible in Europe - obviously this is because they then get charged so much less so need to charge less on premiums. When we claimed two years ago (not with I&G) by far the biggest cost was the sledge evacuation off the hill, the ambulance ride and hospital was by comparison peanuts. Having dealt with insurers on a big household claim some years back then I do understand the need double-check everything and make sure things are written (email is ok) rather than just spoken.

The I&G terms which exclude personal accident and liability cover are new this year and my renewal notice states that my existing terms and conditions apply. I have asked two question:
Which set of conditions apply
Are skicross courses included in the definition of fun parks since many are within the bounds of funparks.
I will let you know the outcome.

I've had a response already. The new Ts&Cs will apply on renewal and you are not covered for Personal Accident or Personal Liability for any accident within any area designated as a fun park you will also be subject to the higher excess. There is no way to cover the PA and PL by paying additional premiums.
Time to look elsewhere

In our search for cover for a couple for a single month-long trip the skiclub of GB's policy is coming out at a lower cost than LV, MPI and the BMC. this is after additional premium for pre-existing conditions.
they cover skiing off-piste without a guide as standard and seem pretty straightforward. Levels of cover are acceptable as most of our kit is covered by a decent home insurance policy.
There are no comments on them so far that i have noticed. Does anyone have any experience of SCGB insurance. Good and bad.
Many thanks
Dave

Just renewed with snowcard, for a couple, max adventure (up helisking) annual 60 day limit, min cover max excess, Europe, £295, about a tenner more than last year. Straightforward health declaration, and few weasel words re extent of cover etc.
BMC was £400 for similar.
MPI similar.
Scgb was similar but no Heli, I think.
My family trips to Canada are covered by a simple £45 annual policy.

LV quote for me so far the best, but their policy doesn't cover scuba diving... and I need it.
Does anyone know of a good ski policy which would also cover scuba diving?

Watch out if you are renewing with Snowcard as they have changed their level structures. To be covered for snowpark/freestyle which is in the Extreme Adventure level, our quote went from £200 last year to £400, for three of us in Europe. Looking elsewhere now.

Our cover with Snowcard has also almost doubled. They seem to be losing a lot of custom. SCGB seem to be a better option at the mo. All the t&c seem so confusing. We always felt covered with Snowcard sadly.

I'm in much the same position as the OP ie looking for annual multi-trip cover.
It looks like something as simple as insurance stirs up a whole lot of feeling, so without wanting to upset anyone with strong views on this 😳, has anyone got experience of making a claim with I&G or SGCB? I think both cover off-piste without a guide so has any one claimed in that circumstance?
We're a family of two adults and 4 children, all wear helmets and all like it go off piste, sometimes with guide often not with trips planned to Austria (although as it's over Xmas and New Year I guess we won't have a problem with off piste skiing 😩) and Italy in February- and it's got to be snowing by then!

I looked at the Snowcard Max Adventure but the site states 4 weeks winter sports holidays max. in a year. Is it the Extreme Adventure that you have?
SCGB is coming out cheapest but I don't like the new policy wording about only using public hospitals/clinics and only using private clinics with prior approval.

don't blame you. The only immediate facility in our area is the clinic in the village, which is where everybody is taken, and is private, as I imagine is the case in most ski resorts. Even if you were fully conscious, not sure how you'd go about getting to a public hospital. Thinking about my injury a couple of years ago, I was sledged from the piste to the clinic - just a few hundred yards. If I'd demanded to go to a public facility, how would I have got there? Waited for a (private?) ambulance to take me? 45 minutes at least, to Albertville. Then another ambulance ride back again.

@Hells Bells, to be fair, it does indicate that this is for out-patient treatment or minor injuries or illness but also includes the following:
'You will only be covered for the cost of private treatment if this is approved in advance by Emergency Assistance Facilities.'
If it's an emergency I don't want to be phoning anyone!
There's no definition of 'minor injury' in the policy wording. A few years ago I fell in flat light, a ski came off and I fell on it cutting my lower leg. I managed to ski down to the village and get to the private clinic in Obergurgl with my lower leg soaked in blood. The wound was quite small but a lot of blood was spurting around but after being stitched up ( ) at the clinic, was OK to ski the following day. Phoning the insurer was the last thing on my mind at the time.

Indeed. My injury turned out to be a fractured pelvis but that wasn't established properly at the outset - it was a guess, though by an experienced doctor, confirmed three days later by a trauma specialist in the same clinic. I was sent home with painkillers and crutches - no treatment required, it would mend itself. Which was true. So was that a minor or a major injury? Several friends have ended up in the same clinic with suspected concussion - they were examined, all seemed OK, they were sent home with strict instructions to their "carer" about what symptoms to look out for.
Major or minor?

Ok, we have now joined the hunt, reading the t&c's, 24/7 & Lloyds (AXA) are about the same price & cover, has anybody used either. We have also looked at SCGB, slightly more and a bit concerned about this public medical facility bit

Me personally I can't find any better than snowcard. I have the family wintersports free with lloyds premier, however its the single item limit and off piste without a guide that screws me up. at least with snowboard I can set clothing (which includes jacket, pants etc) to £3k with no item limit, and skis to £3k (there is a limit of circa £500 per pair from memory). Good how you can chose your type of skiing too. All seems a lot simpler than most insurances, albeit it is more expensive!

must have been the Adventure basic cover (unless they've changed wording form last year). You'd expect anything with the words Adventure in to cover skiing.
