It looks like Ski Club of Great Britain may e-mail the registered (non-member) users. A member of Council has said that it was a good idea and would encourage that it be implemented.

Basically two council members have revealed themselves - one has been posting away quite extensively and coherently in opposition to a number of equally extensive and coherent posts on our part - the other Council member seems to have concentrated on making sarky comments and it is with him that Colin is engaged!

That would be Mark I guess Ian. I had a great time skiing with him in Fernie, he's a great bloke. How tragic that so much bad feeling is being generated

The condascending nature of his responses to various posts suggests that he would be well suited to the position.

Current debate seems to be focussing on the issue of "legal liability", which Council members, seemingly acknowledging that they have lost the other debates, are now pushing as the primary reason for their decision.
I think this is just a smokescreen, as of the tens of thousands of posts to that forum I am not aware of any that have been libellous, or have even come close to getting the club into trouble. Do we have any lawyers or web forum experts that can give a definitive position on this issue?

It was probably the relative lack of abuse that made them complacent about the software and moderation. Once they started getting f and c words plus links to porno images on a site accessible to families then I agree that they had to do something. It was just that they chose to do the wrong thing.

It was in the "Ladies - Thong or Granny Pants on piste" link.
Somebody inserted a link to a Flash enabled site, and you certainly got a flash!! The moderator removed the link as being too risque.

I reckon that they have identified all the defectors from their ranks and denying them access.

Serious problems appear to exist. You can't get any photos from the member's area, you can't list the discount providers ie shops etc.., you can't get news or features and the archive search doesn't work.
Have we sent in a hit squad? SAS type operations are the flavour of the day. You don't mess with SnowHeads!!
