The latest news from the resort:
Over on the Peisey Vallandry side the piste from near the bottom of the Combe piste started last season is now finished and links to the top of the Parchey Chair and across to the Grizzly so you do not need to go lower to get back to the main ski area higher up.
The new Chair lift coming out of Arc 1600 replacing the Mont Blanc and Deux Tetes lifts is well on it's way and should be finished in time for next season. They have built a new blue piste connecting the top of this chair across the top of the Deux Tetes Black piste and bottom of the Malgovert Red piste to join the Mont Blanc Blue piste giving easy access back to Arc 1600.

There are various upgrades of the snow canons going on around the resort.
The bottom of the Vagere Red piste has been re-laid with mud, hopefully this will make it safer when the snow cover is thin.
The building work for Edenarc is going ahead well, but the new buildings DO interfere with the beginners piste leading into Arc 1800 despite the guarantees that it would not, typical!! Link to the web page: http://www.edenarc1800.com/english/
The building on the other side of Arc 1800 near to the Charmettoger piste is continuing, but will take some time to finish although this work does not appear to be affecting the pistes on that side of the station.
There is a new building in the Arc 2000 bowl which may become another snack bar I am told, waiting to have that confirmed.
That seems to be about it for now, I will post again when I receive any further news.

Staying in La Thuria Residences in Arc 1800. Does anyone have any experience of staying here? How far is it away from the nearest lifts and the centre of Arc 180? Cheers in advance.

Or nip down across the field to La Vache for a coffee or a bite to eat, & then up Parchey lift to rejoin the path over to Grizzly

snowcrazy, thanks for the links to the Mont Blanc photos - it makes me want to get back... NOW! (and of course posting on the thread means it comes up in the "my posts" list... )
Is the new top station at the same place as the top of the Deux Tetes drag lift? The internet map, despite being on the lesarcs.com page marked as winter 2011/12, is still showing last year's configuration, with no blue link between Belvedere and Mont Blanc. Hopefully put some people off then...
Currently looks like we'll be out Mid Jan for the boys week, with Mrs Roll out for girls week (also in Jan). Question is: which group will be first, and which will get to hear the gossip about 'behaviour', at George's the week later?!
We're also out en famille at Easter, 2 weeks.
And I may have to come out for village business sometime in November as well, so although no skiing, if you are around and I have some time in BSM, I'll give you a call - see how things are going with your co-prop.

genepi, have you tried La Ferme? - further up the track than La Vache, get at it via the "road" route from top of Parchey. We love it, particularly the optimistic distances on their signs down the route: "300yds to go"... well, yes, if you take the vertical drop then I suppose it is.
Very small inside but fantastic atmosphere, very reasonable prices by comparison to the rest of the slopeside, and a real entrepreneurial feel of farm turned restaurant during the winter (with farmer + wife + cowherd doing the serving) even though they are as far out on the periphery of the Les Arcs domain as it is possible to be. Been there 3 times now, both inside and on the veranda during the slightly(!) warmish Spring this year.
Sorry: shameless plug, but I think these guys deserve the support, and we'll be back again this season if they are still going.

Arctic Roll, I have indeed been there a couple of times - & as you say, very good, reasonably priced food, if you are happy to wait. Its a lovely sunny terrace in the summer too. Remind me to tell you some stories though when we meet up this winter I'm sure they'll still be there this winter - he is the major land owner round there & is said to have made a tidy sum over the building of the Parchey lift.

surfski, 1950 and 2000 are connected by a free pedestrian lift (the Cabriolet) which runs till , well 11pm at the moment, but I am working on establishing a joint initiative with the 2000 commercants to get later opening this winter ("mais", as everyone keeps saying about anyting in the Alps, "c'est tres complique"...) or a minibus.
But to get to see snowcrazy in 1950 is no problem for early evening drinks in Georges. Chances are good that we'll be there that week too, and so looking forward to meeting any in the resorts.

surfski, hi, as Arctic Roll, explained, it is easy to connect with Arc 1950 so hope to see you at George's Wine Bar for a drink. Off piste skiing should be fun around that time but it is better to arrange meeting up for this nearer the time. As for kiting, yes it is possible, one of my friends does it but it is still getting estblished here. Might be worth you contacting the speedflying guys as they may well have some good contacts for you. Hope that helps.

genepi, yes I can smell cold in the distance. Changed job in the Summer so been very busy. Putting a note here means I get notification of entries on this thread (done same on Tignes thread) and can avoid wasting time trawling through the rest of the site.

Hi all,
There'll be 6 of us including a small pup (8 months) coming out on 7th Jan staying in Manoir Savoie in 1950. Are there any others young familys going??. Also, I hear there is now a kind of rope-pull along the flat area above arc 2000, is this true??

yes the new rope pull (in for last winter) takes you from roughly the top of the Pre St Esprit lift, a bit of the way up the hill that Marmottes finishes on: so you can ski down into the Chalets de L'Arc bowl without having to push the final 100 metres (if that makes sense!) When busy, still quicker to walk (or arrive with some momentum...)
I don't think there was any other terraforming in that bit going on this summer while we were out, but I was surprised to see, without snow, the actual scale of the drop from just above Acarbulle to that gully - in fact the "Mushroom" restaurant almost looked like it was on a pedastal it was so high. Strange how things change with snow on top of them...
There are also two 'magic carpets' - one outside Manoir Savoie for 'small' people to use for learning or sleding in the evenings, and one up the Olympic flame lump in 2000 - I think for access purposes to the other apartments round the back, now more developments have been established across from original plaza facing the Aguille Rouge. (And I think they have replaced one of the drags in 2000 as well with a moving carpet , but as I don't often go into the hotel complex, can't be certain). I guess not really relevant to general users unless your apartment is down that way or you are visiting others.

Artic roll, Thanks for the info, I cant wait. Getting married next month followed by 16 nights at a 5* spa resort in Dominican. Both of us admitted to looking forward to Arc 1950 in Jan more than the honeymoon.

For the geeks out there the iphone app for Les Arcs is worth a look. Better than the t'internet site. No flashturbation. Web cams on the move, click button emergencies icon giving the longitute and latitude as to where you are, maps, routes, speed testing and more, its even free. Fun for the geeks.

livetoski, Hi, first time in feb half term in Arcs 1800, can't wait, anyway I've kinda checked out ESF and Arcs Adventure for schooling, ESF is a little cheaper but not by much(at the moment though AA are only showing 2010/11 prices). You do hear about ESF sometimes, not always having some arrogance/attitude issues which,as adults, we could deal with but with an 8 yr old boy as well we do need to try to make sure its fun and instructional for him. Are any of them guaranteed English speaking? And is the instruction of any better quality for the slightly higher fee?.
There are 3 of us, my wife, this will be her third week, she is a very competent beginner(beginning parallel, ski'd Andorran red for first time), my 8 yr old son who thinks he is Bodie Miller(did very well in Andorran higher intermediate group, first black run). And me who IS Bodie Miller  (Again, competent upto black, never really done off piste).
Any personal input from anybody would be very helpful.

ricfrench, to be honest the best person to pm, or sure he will be along soon is Snowcrazy, he is based in Les Arcs all season. We don't tend to use ski schools ourselves, but with all ESF's it all depends on which instructor you get
