gwatts10, Poudrouse (now called L'Enfant Terrible I think) is at the top of the Vallandry chairlift, very easy to find.
La Vache is at the bottom of the Parchey lift at Peisey.
Altiport is near the Arpette piste. It is marked on the current piste map by the Waterslide which is right next door to it.
Another good one for large groups to meet is the Arpette restaurant which is on the Belvedere piste just below the Altiport.

La Vache is great after the ski down still, Solliet at the half way point disappointing. La Poudreuse (Below the top of the Vallandry lift) is under the same management as the Arpette (just below the Altiport) this year and are both worth a visit. Le Chalet de L'rc at 1950 is expensive but enjoyable, and if you're stuck in one day then a trip to Nancroix to l'Ancolie is we worthwhile, although you are unlikely to want to ski much afterwards. I used to enjoy Belliou la Fumee at Pre St Espirit at the botttom of Comborcieres but was disappointed last time I went, and the self service there has improved. At 1600 there is Le Chalet de l'Arcelle where you may need to book, again good food at a mid price.

The forecast looks to get a lot better over the weekend into next week with clear blue sky's and much lighter winds. Anyone out next week should be perfect for you. Fingers crossed for blue bird days from the 14th for the whole week.

thanks for that I can recall Poudresse , had a few sherberts in there before .
La vache we went to a few years ago , with Freddy ( he is the top intsructor at ESF , apparently was the 3rd or 4th employee of ESF in Paissey ) he took us on our boards through the trees , and if i rememebr was it a Thai / Indian type of place a few years back .After lunch we boarded down even further through a churchyard and got the navette at Nancroix I think .
Being boarders I am sure we will spend tiime in the parc so will keep an eye out for Altiport and Belvedere .......are either of these a big round space ship type place ?
Anither great restaurant is the one down by the old car park where the combociere and pre saint esprit lifts are , is that still open and as good ?
thanks for updates

gwatts10, We like La Ferme - which is uphill from La Vache and right on the edge of the Peisy domain ( yes, there is a La Ferme at both extremes of the Les Arcs area... don't get them mixed up!)) . To access it you go down the track off the side from the top of the PArchey lift, (or down the blue from bottom of Combe) rather than the piste direct to La Vache. Small, maybe 5 tables inside, but we love it.

Just spoken with 1950 village director. 140 people stranded last night, couldn't get down the hill - guests and commercants, so had to find accommodation for them. Still snowing, still storming, still a lot of H&S work to do to keep the village and surrounds safe, and well as prepare for Russian New Year this weekend.
The very best of luck and good wishes to everyone trying to get in and out in the next day or so. We arrive NEXT week, when it will of course be blue sky and champagne powder...

Jon Ford, not as standard, but you can borrow the PS2 / 3 from reception provided for this express purpose. They also have a DVD library.
You should be able to get Corrie although don't forget it will be on an hour later than you are expecting!

Limited Vis - certainly in the morning, more snow overnight and continuing, 2000 closed, road to 2000 closed (apparently) many lifts not opening on time.
First on Vallandry, fresh tracks to Vagere, waited a few minutes for Vagere to open, first on the lift, unbelievable!!
Run of the day was Rouelles (or was that run of the season?) we had first tracks in perfect untouched snow, and on a second time around, pretty much just ours from previous, third time trashed
Avalanche risk mainly 5 ( may have been 4 lower), so stayed within sight of pistes, a lot of blasting all day.
Lunch in 1800, as requested, they opened the Transarc (1) just as we finished, perfect.
Anyone coming out in the next few days is in for a real treat.
Edited to clarify avalanche risk

genepi
Freddy is one of the oldest ESF instructors I think he was there 2nd or 3rd employee and he has guests who ask for him year after year , his 2 x sons are amazing skiers funnily enough he makes his own genepi and always brings a hip flask or two when we meet him .
Thanks to all for restaurant suggestions we will try them all .Trying to get 18 x adults booked into L'Ancolie for an evening is proving difficult , I think one of Freddy's relatives run's it .

With all this talk about restaurants and meeting places, I would like to put in my sixpenn'th! I totally agree with the positive comments about La Vache at Peisey. I called in at lunchtime yesterday, to book a table for last evening, and was totally amazed at the packed house. I found out later that they had served seventy lunches! Anyway our evening meal was superb, as usual, and Chloe and her sister, Fiona, deserve credit for having one of the best eateries around, but don't forget, they close on Mondays.
However my other favourite restaurant is Blanche Muree, close to the midstation on the Transarc bubble, just before you enter the forest track on your way to Peisey. "Berber", and all his cheerful staff give a great welcome, and produce some excellent meals at reasonable prices. their "plat du jour" is 11 euros 20c, and most times you go, you get a free glass of genepy liqueur to wash it down, preserving an ancient Savoy custom which very few now follow. It is a great meeting place, having a separate cosy bar, ideal for coffee or beer, but be warned, at busy times, you may have to queue for a meal.
My other surprise nomination is "Le Cairn" at 1600 village, only a minute's walk from the bottom of the old Cachette Lift, past the famous La Coupole dome. I called in there the other day, New Year's Day actually, and was very impressed by their quick service and reasonable prices. It was also packed out. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes, having scoffed a very pleasant chicken & mushroom, with spaghetti and a delicious sauce, for only ten euros. 50 c., not bad at all. I also like Le Chalet d'Arcelle at 1600, but it is more difficult to get to, and you have to book on many days.

Tragic indeed but to mitigate the risk of this happening I find it best to travel at all times on the slopes with a hip flask of Genepy.

There is nothing more gutting than having to go home when the weather clears after a huge snowfall. Poor people!

Sat 7th Jan 2012
Just come back from Arc 1800 - had to dig the car out and descent to Bourg on chains - had over 1m snow in a week in resort and fab conditions! Not such good viz some days but NYDay was epic - blue sky, new snow..wonderful. We were lucky to be only as hifgh as 1800, the road from 1600 to 2000 was closed for 24 hours due to the snow!
Livetoski try Ski Privilege, they specialise in small groups, or Arc Aventures as an alternative to ESF.
If you pay peanuts you get monkeys - e few euros extra makes all the difference to the service imo.
steven0123 if you are reasonable standard then the one MUST is top of Aiguille Rouge cable car all the way to Villaroger stopping en route at Solliet Restaurant. The best food, the best Vin Chaud... If you don't fancy the top bit, then catch Lanchettes lift up out of Arc 2000 and join the run there.
And Malgovert, if it's open and you like unpisted, but not off piste. Our favourire. To get there, off the top of Comborciere lift it runs down towards 1600.
Surfski ... there'll be more than enough!

Hello,
I'm back in England now, yay. The last few days hsave been a bit hectic, various things worrying our minds.
When we woke up on Friday it was still snowing and none of the lifts were open, neither was the road. This resulted in all of us lounging around the apartment watching daytime tv on the english tv channels which we could get. Around 11 am we saw people putting on their skis and heading down to the lifts, a quick check online confirmed that they had opened Marmottes and Pre St Esprit. We quickly got ready to go out and joined the queue at Marmottes. We did a few runs, the snow was nice and had some fresh tracks but the cold was getting to us, especially our faces. We decided to ski down to Pre St Esprit then head for lunch. The queue at Pre St Esprit was surprisingly short, and the lift was incredibly long, cold, horrible, etc...
We had lunch in Arc 2000, le Kilamanjaro, it was surprisingly nice. I had the lamb chops and dauphanoise potatoes, it was so nice. We then went back to the apartment, and discovered that the road had opened and the navette was running. We made the decision to stay down in Bourg for the night, not wanting to miss our train on the Saturday morning. I have never packed so quickly in my life. We got the train back home yesterday, it was delayed slightly but oh well.
And there was the last few days of our holiday.
I would like to thank everybody for listening to me babble about what I've done for the last week or so. I would also like to thank the people who have skied with me for making it a good holiday (Cheers, Mr Eagle), and thanks to snowcrazy for skiing with us.
Until later this season, TTFN. (Ta ta for now! )

Arriving at Les Arcs on the 4th Feb, If (for some reason) it doesnt snow again until after my holiday (sods law), what would the skiing conditions be like (intermediate - reds and blues)
Went to Passo Ton last season and didnt snow for 3wks before I arrived. Snow was pretty good. A few icy bits in the morning and bit slushy at end of day.
Am hoping for a few more big dumps just before I arrive, but snow forecast shows no fall for the rest of the week. thanks

Fine, the bashers have more than enough snow at the moment to keep pistes pretty well perfect
Today.... Went out a little later today, played off Vagere / Arpette found plenty places to put fresh tracks down. Lunch on a rock in the 2000 bowl (pic below) and a run of the top of Vagere, down towards the igloo, but staying left, soooo much untracked snow, although by early afternoon some slopes were getting a little crusty and or heavier.. No so with Col du la Chal down to Nancroise perfect powder, not that many people have gone down there, so plenty space more more fresh tracks
A teansy weasny hike got the above
Picnic rock in the 2K bowl.
Smiles all round - even the track at the bottom is in good condition - you still have the path to hike though - but pain well worth the pleasure
