Does anyone know what they are doing just below the top of the Transarc, looks like where the skier cross course starts, lots of digger and truck activity over the last few days

wow I only just spotted this, sorry if its else where on Snowheads
indeed.....still, at about 2.33 you do see the safety lines in evidence and then in a couple of places later on. Even so.....
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Nice videos, they were posted a while ago, but still worth seeing again. livetoski, did you check out my new summer les arcs page, loads of stuff there. has anyone seen the new Les Arcs movie yet. They were making it during the summer, should be out by now. If anyone finds it please post the link. I will also keep a look out for it.
Now for some important stuff.
The links for lift passes are out, though not working yet.
Just a quick update re lift passes. If you go to the following link you will see the details of lift pass prices for the coming season. Seems to not be online yet, but worth giving them a call next Monday to ask more.
I will try to find out more re. last seasons special 'Ednearc' pass and whether those not in La Plagne still need to get this for the full discount. Hope to post more early next week.
Regarding Nirvanalps points and possible discounts for owners. Go to the next link, as always they have not put it all in English. There are two systems, Classic and Premium. You need to read it all, still not that easy to follow. Good luck! Anyone that uses this, please post what happens as this would be helpful to everyone.
For anyone into off piste. Here is an 'Off Piste Les Arcs' vid. See how many of the places you know. If anyone wants to come ski or ride these places with me when you are out in Les Arcs, get in touch before you come out. Best to send me a pm or email.
It look's like the facebook Les Arcs ski and Info group pages are changing, for those that use my group as well, keep a look on the link as I might have to change it.
Richie_S, the start of this coming season. 2011/2012
ricfrench, Take a look at my facebook group page for private instructors that speak English. Otherwise, just make sure you tell them you MUST have a good English speaking Instructor. Both Arc Adventure and ESF in Arc 1800 have plenty of good English speaking Instructors. Also Privelege and Intial Snow as well. All links are on the first post I made above at the start of the thread.
Hope that helps.
steven0123, if you are in Arc 1950, best to go with them as they are right on your door.
surfski, good news on the kiting. The speedsking guys also do some and my friends tells me you can even go to a few other nearby skier free areas. Sounds like something I might have to try.
Christopher, if you want to do some off piste, take a look at the vid above and my photos on my facebook group page. Then send me a pm if you are interested in coming with us. For lessons, Arc Adveture are good. Just make sure you tell them you want a good English speaker.
Then you can post your own questions or snow reports...

snowcrazy, here is a video i self made when i was snow kiting in North Wales. Its not the best filming but it gives you an idea. It was hard to hold the camera with one hand and fly the kite with the other hand.
You'll get to see more forums and be part of the best ski club on the net.

For all you Mountain Bikers, here are the new VTT videos from the summer, one with Kenny Belaey and another made by the local boys. Both worth a look. Enjoy!
Nice to see a short section in Mr Beleay's ride that I actually did this summer! (OK I admit... the green single track down to the reservoir)
Thanks for posting snowcrazy, brings back some happy memories. And a desire to go a wee bit further next time...

@ricfrench I learnt with the ESF in the late 90s. It helps having a place there and speaking French, but generally I found them to be nice and good teachers. Have heard ok things too about Arc Aventures.
There are a few guides in our village who are neighbours you can book direct if you prefer. ESF qualified and excellent English. Can put you in touch if you like?
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

you need to click on the zoom function to see it. I am guessing they are trying to stop people riding the little section under the lift, on the side of the new fence which can slip and there are a couple of nice rocks there as well. Just hope there not doing the same over the other side of the Derby lift
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

livetoski, yes, well spotted.
You know it makes sense.

Lokking at these pictures of the new Mont Blanc lift they appear to have created an excellent run down under the lift for fresh powder. However, thinking very carefully about that area, the top section may be very steep. Does any one recall a small cliff just by the deux tete?
Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

For anyone that is interested in watching a video of how they are making the new Mont Blanc Lift, try this link.
Lift passes for pre season sales MIGHT be online this week, but they were late last season so you will need to check the link I posted earlier to be sure. For discounted passes, you must buy before the end of November.
Sorry guys, that fence was there last season, they have just repaired it.
johnE, The main cliffs are lower down in the forest. The start by the new chair is steep in places and can be unstable. But it is a fun place to go, just a pity it will get skied out quicker now because of the new lift.

snowcrazy, thanks for that link. Got to admire the skill of the pilots and the bravery of the ground crew. With that much metal work (literally) flying around the potential for injury must be high!

Good afternoon I'm from health and Safety......
Yep, we strap 3 blokes to the top of the steel tube and then we swing several tons of steel over their heads....they grab it by hand and hold it in place ...and then bolt it to the tube that they are strapped on to! Yep, all at about 50ft up
I am doing my first season in Piesey Nancroix at the grand old age of 38 !! Jacked in my well paid job in the city and i seriously cannot wait !!!
Does anyone know the cost of a seasonnaires full paradiski pass and do I need to buy before i get out there ??
That sounds really cool, but how do you fund yourself while you're there??

Heading out to Les Arcs on the 22nd January to Club Med in Arcs 2000. Have only ever stayed in Peisey (10 times at least) so this is a new departure for me. Can't wait.
Any recommendations of must ski / do while I'm there are most welcome
Since I don't know what you enjoy doing I cannot recommend things to do, but here are some of the things I want to do:
Ski Malgovert as fast as possible (and wreck my knees)
Go down the toboggan run
The north face of the Bellecote
Non stop from the col du chal to Vallandry
Drinking in the L'Abreuvoir
Enjoy yourself

If anyone is looking for studio or one/two room apartments in Bourg for holiday let or 2011/2012 season send me a pm or take a look at my facebook Les Arcs group.
There are also larger places, one sleeping up to 8 easily and another sleeping 20 plus for holiday lets.
These places are not mine, they belong to friends that are looking for holiday or seasonal rentals.
Libertine, You can use the link http://www.nirvanalps.com/skipasses/season-skipasses-presale/?lang=en for Les Arcs season passes. They are the same this year as Edenski in La Plagne. Remember you must buy before end of November to get the discount. If you are out all season, take a look at my Les Arcs facebook group page and send me a PM when you get out if you are interested in meeting up.

Having spent many weeks in les arcs over the years weve decided to try Austria and Germany this year. However I cant stop myself wasting the hours at work looking at historic webcam images of 1950! Anyone find themselves doing this?

snowcrazy, those prices are for public, are there not cheaper rates for season workers? Any ideas? i'm not on facebook so if there is a way to get the workers discount before getting out there, would appreciate your help. Will contact you when out, def meet up.
steven0123, funding by working and renting out my proerty here.

I thought your employer had to get your passes if your a season worker. I might be wrong.
guv001, of course they don't have to, but a lot of them do... Means they can pay you even less!
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

What job are you doing/who with? - normally the employer sorts the pass out for you, although unless you're ski hosting it's pretty unlikely you will get a full paradiski pass.. a couple of years back the RM for skibeat got a full paradiski pass, but that was pretty much it amongst the PV seasonaires (unless self-funded)
Just found out I've got the winter off work and coming to do a season in Les Arcs and staying in 2000!
Know the resort very well on piste but off piste don't have a clue. Would be grateful of any days when people may be able to show me around a little? Also, thanks for the links snowcrazy but the season pass link shows prices but I can't to find any further info or download an application anywhere? Am I just being stupid

The Lift pass link is still not open. Please post when anyone finds it working.
Pablito, Hope to see you down in George's Wine Bar at Arc 1950. Send me a PM or better still post on my facebook group page if you want to meet up during the winter. The Nivanalps page will have a direct link when it starts working to get lift passes. You do not have to be an owner this year to buy a Les Arcs pre-season discouted pass.
bertie bassett, last season all season workers had the option of a paradiski pass at know extra charge, but they only get one for the first half of the season and then have to produce work confirmation docs to get the second half of the season. Should be interesting to see what the resort does for this year. The situation is changing all the time.
For anyone wondering, you can only get a workers season pass with the support of an employer. If you cheat the system and get caught, you loose your pass, get fined and a ten year ban from the resort!!

I am staying near Narcroix this season and want to try out some nordic skiing / skating.. does anyone know if the cross country routes are included in the price of the paradiski lift pass? Also, how easy / costly are nordic skis to hire?
