Goodness me, people are getting very bad tempered in this thread. Without having been stuck in an airport all night with screaming kids.

I'm not seeing people calling for the downfall of SB... IMV the serious 'crimes' in this case were the shouting, rag losing reps and the utter lack of communication from SB during Pandora's outward trip. If I were SB management and keeping tabs on this thread (there will be at least one), I'd be diving into these issues, making sure that neither EVER happened again.

Spot on. And, if there are any misrepresentations for them to refute, good luck to them.

True. But it is a shocking concept, isn't it - a female pilot, who has children and rides horses?

Yes, whatever next? I recall very well the first female pilot I encountered - a Motswana who flew me from Gaborone up to Francistown. She got going, did whatever she had to do, then sat there reading Mad Magazine. I was well impressed! I didn't ask her whether she rode horses but I'd be surprised if she didn't have children.

How very interesting. I go away for a few days, come back and find that this thread has descended into speculation about me, some of it a very long way from the truth, and some of it definitely defamatory. So where to start with the suing?
As has been correctly stated by some, I have no problems at all with snow in the winter - of all people I am very aware of what happens at alpine airports in the snow. I have a problem with poor communications from a company I and my friends have paid thousands of pounds to, including lack of information and bad tempered, shouty resort managers. And, yes, I AM a very busy person, which is why I and my friends paid a company thousands of pounds to ensure things ran smoothly in the event of any problems.
I am not sure what anyone wants me to come back and say, other than 'No word from Ski Beat yet.' Although Titan have issued a statement of delay times to provide my insurer. As many of you feel very informed about my life I don't think I need to say any more. However, some of the more provocative posts are wrong, wrong ,wrong. Other than that I have no comment to make here about my personal life or work.
Anyway, back to the thread's new direction - carry on speculating among yourselves. I'm a bit busy to join in often so don't worry about where I have gone if I don't reply to any personal attacks. BTW each additional OP mud-slinging post is keeping this thread at the top of the page far better than I could have done myself. Well, done, all involved!

pandora, you named an individual and accused him of 'bullshitting' regarding airport closures. Are you now able to produce factual evidence regarding airport closures during the time you were in travel-limbo should you be sued for defamation? Also, how do you know that said individual wasn't just passing on this information in good faith?
Just trying to keep this thread on top and establish some facts.
Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with Ski Beat.

Mumsnet have been sued before:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/05/11/ford_mumsnet/
They probably don't want to take on the risk as publishers for a story about skiing, which isn't even their primary subject matter.
I think with stuff like this it's best for the aggrieved party to sue and then publish all facts after the case.

Their prerogative.
But let's see if the OP can tell us how she was able to establish that the rep wasn't acting in good faith regarding the closures. At the moment he stands accused of lying.

My understanding of defamation, is that context is everything. 'C0wdoo' taken in the context of the above statement would seem to indicate that the OP thinks this named person is a liar.
Quote: |
We ask for explanations and compensation. We are refused both. Garry will not talk about the airports after I reveal I am an airline pilot with 10 years experience flying to the Alps and that I think he is bullsh!tting and that there is more to it. |
Out of interest, can any of the lawyers tell me if saying 'I think' would be a defense in terms of this just being an opinion, or would it be an admission by the OP that she doesn't know whether he's bullshtting and is therefore guilty of libel?
Is it not also true that snowHeads, as publisher, could be held liable along with the OP in the event of a defamation claim?

I agree with you here. Opinion should only be divided with regard to relevant facts, and not job or gender.

If someone told a ski community that I was deformed, I would consider this to be defamation. Yes
In legal terms, this might be viewed as a combination of deformation claim and defamation claim: doubly serious.

Pjski - why are you so interested in the legal nitty gritty? Are you the MD of Ski Beat or something?!
If Ski Beat think Pandora's post was inaccurate why don't they come on here officially and say so, or if it was accurate they could just apologise and admit they had a bad day and are looking into the problems with the airport coach.
Some chaps on here are either closely linked to Ski Beat or are just jealous of Pandora's career. Otherwise why would they be so angry about her thread?
