It dawned on me today that my walking has really speeded up over this last week - not quite normal for me speed, but nearly there. I rejoined my exercise class this week too - & just do other exercises if they are doing impact or rotational stuff. Life is beginning to feel normal again It was hard (although enjoyable!) to watch Wimbledon - I'll be glad to get back to tennis, but not yet, I suspect.
How are you getting on, Idris?

AndAnotherThing.., Most days, about 3-4 miles, I guess, over the rough, boggy terrain that the New Forest offers. (2 large Labradors).

Just back from a really useful physio session this morning. I'd got really bad cramp in my left (operated side) hamstring at my exercise class on Tues evening, resulting in a stiff & achey knee yesterday. Physio made me repeat the exercise & realised that while my glute & hamstring were firing in the right order on the right side, my left hamstring was firing before the glute on the left side. He also discovered that I rotate my hips to the right when walking - maybe as a result of weak left glute. So, more exercises to add into the routine, but it's always good to understand why something has not been comfortable.!

I've had my 16week post-op check up this afternoon with Jonathan Bell. He seems very pleased with how my knee is doing, & I'm delighted with it! The new ACL is no longer spongey, but firm when he tested it. To me it feels really stable, & I'm looking forward to testing it with some mountain walking in Plan Peisey over the next 10 days.
I honestly cannot praise highly enough the treatment & kindness I have received from everybody at Wimbledon Clinics, particularly JB himself. What a professional team - thank you all so much! I have to do an hour with his physio to see if I'll be ready for his 'Back to Ski' day in November, but that may be pushing my luck, as 7 months is the earliest he would be happy for me to get back on skis if I was strong enough. It gives me something to aim for though
Idris What news of your knee?

Hi Genepi, looks like we are doing thimngs in parallel again - Went for my checkup with Dr Rollier this morning!! -
Only starange one is he wants me start running, only 10 min then work my way up to 30 min...3 times a day!!, yes I can normaly walk up a 4000m mountain with a bit of effort, but running is something I only do very short distances and only in an emergency. So I've bought some running shoes and when the rain stops I guell I'll have to try.
Knee doing fine, there are a few bad days along with the good ones of course. Off to the Pyrenees to do my IML Summer Exam week after next!

Idris, Seems I share your love of running . I have to wait for the go ahead from his physio before I'm allowed (phew!) - but I think it's to get the knee used to impact stuff. I'm glad it's all going well for you too. Walking normally up a 4000m mountain sounds a bit extreme - that would have me puffing for sure! Good luck with the IML Summer Exam - what is that exactly?

Spoke to physio today - running has to wait ..at least until september, knee upset 'cause I tried running first
We live on the side of a 4000m mountain, the lift down the road goes up to 3800m so no excuses for me on big hills
IML is International Mountain Leader, sort of Hiking Guide for Europe, anyplace you don't need a rope or cross a glacier.
My summer exam is 4 days of leadinga group round the Pyrenees, keeping them entertained (flora, fauna, mountain life etc.) and safe (emergency ropework, navigation, weather etc)

NickyJ, It is - I just hope that doesn't make it vulnerable - but so far so good
holidayloverxx, Me too - rather nervous, but I'd much rather get on my skis for the first time there, than on a real mountain.

genepi, you have done so well. I remember it was a full 6months before I went back to hockey training and even then it still felt very flat while running in comparison to my other leg and when she got me to do a long hop forward the distance was shockingly short of that from my good leg.

NickyJ, I wouldn't attempt hockey training yet, even if i was a hockey player. I'd have thought you did well to get back to it after 6months. I've been told not to play tennis till the spring because of the impact & rotation involved - I'd have thought hockey was similar? A friend has just had her tennis court redone & I went along to umpire a game the other day - nearly killed me, not being able to play, but I'm thinking of the future....

genepi, training is much more just drills and fitness work. It was strictly under no sprinting, no tackling instructions, it was good though for building my fitness / muscle strength up further.

I had my first day back skiing today, nine months after my reconstruction. Felt so nervous about it at first & I started off with a lovely & trusted instructor/friend. Gradually regained confidence & my knee felt fantastic & I had no pain or swelling afterwards. Really happy to be back skiing again Can't believe I dithered so long about the surgery!
