Mrs Ise has now booked a table for tomorrow night at the local restaurant (in Morillon) so I think's she's fairly sure she's going now. It'll be a flying visit, over there tomorrow evening and back Saturday evening, but we'll be around Saturday.....

ise I've noticed that women do that a lot, they usually say it's a womans perogative or some such nonsense

It's all related to great boot crisis of 2004 which is causing such chaos chez ise, turns out the IM was to tell me the chimney sweep has arrived and is rabbiting away in Swiss-German

PG, anyway, if you go, the races are on the Serpentine/Olivine area I think which is above Flaine. You can drive into Flaine and park there or park at Vernant or Les Moillets and avoid what I suspect will be the queues at Flaine itself, parking's tricky in Flaine anyway. Vernant is closest to where you want to be but Les Moillets is good enough. You'll get by with a day ticket for Flaine alone I think, I can't see you'd need the entire Grand Massif.

Thanks, it would be my first visit there....

See Suchet beat Montillet to the downhill title today. But better still! A guest maybe, but Finlay Mickel came second to Deneriaz in the men's downhill!!
Some small comfort for being robbed in the Europa Cup Super G.....

Deneriaz, our local hero in Morillon. I'm one of the few there without my jacket signed by him

You know it makes sense.

He posed for a photo with Hannah last April at the Alpe d'Huez Coq d'Or. He's a big guy! Really nice bloke too, unassuming, shy. Wandered around the Sports Centre where the prizegiving was happening trying to look invisible. Not easy! Hannah looks like a midget next to him.
But what about Finlay Mickel though, eh?

Would you believe it, murmurs around the bars today would have it that the downhill course at Flaine is too flat, hence Finlay (90kgs plus, 6'4") 's "freak result". Would you believe it, haven't they heard of 'le fair play'? I just hope we thrash them at rugger.

Now all we need is the Baxters to come first and second in the slalom tomorrow night, and the humiliation will be complete. (Not that I'm chauvinistic, or anything.... )

PG are you sure you mean chauvinistic and not patriotic ?
D G Orf, I start off being merely patriotic, but as mentioned in the rugby thread French commentators in general can be rather biased and smug about how 'good' the French are, so it has been known for my patriotism to change to chauvinism after a few of the wrong buttons have been pressed! British sports commentators are far more 'fair play' on the whole.
Still it has to be said, with due respect to members from the other side of the Pond, at least the French give air time to competitors from places other than their own country, unlike in the US, rather too frequently!

Very true, and of course I should have added to my previous post, Well done Finlay ! looks like he's getting some well deserved success for all his hard work

No idea? Ok it's early over there, but here's another clue. Two brothers, one nicknamed the "Highlander", both slalom specialists ......
(I have instructed daughter to inform her coach at this morning's training session that it's a good job Chemmy was injured, or it would have been a whitewash!!)

PG given Chemmys improving form you may well have been right, it's always nice to see people who some have dismissedas no hope wanabes finish out at the front, typical British attitude I'm afraid, we like the underdog
Red Dave may well have seen the victories in question (Mickel's and Alain Baxter's). It would have been something to savour, there's a lot of quality at the French National Championships. Chemmy could easily have been right up there.
Me, it's not so much liking the underdog, it's seeing the smug having to eat humble pie!

Unfortunately I missed most of the racing, including those excellent British (OK Scotish) results - felt that getting to know the resort before my repping slot was more important. There was certainly a buzz in the bars on Saturday night! I'll be rubbing it in at work tomorrow - my office mate is a very good skier and a very nationalistic Frenchman!
As for the rugby, if you believe everyting you see and hear on French TV and radio, the GS is in the bag. I'm sick of hearing about the unbeaten French team. We despertately need England to get their act together, though I'd like to see Ireland win the overall competition.
