Langlauf hits headlines as Pippa prepares for 90km race

Newspapers from the Telegraph to Blick, Switzerland's tabloid, to the Washington Post have picked up on the story of Pippa Middleton's cross-country ski challenge this weekend. On Sunday, Prince William's sister-in-law - along with her brother, James Middleton - will be among 15,800 people to race in the Vasaloppet in Sweden...Reports have focused on Pippa practising in Gstaad, the previous physical challenges she has taken part in and the charity for which the pair are raising money.

Skiers might be more interested in the race itself, which claims to be the longest, biggest and oldest cross-country ski race in the world.

It must be raced classic-style rather than skating, and according to last year's results, 14,079 men and 1,661 women finished, 26 Brits completed the race, and the winner crossed the line in a time of 3 hours 51 minutes, 13 minutes short of the course record set in 1998.

Also racing was Andrew Musgrave form the British Squad. He was lying in 3rd place at the second split (1hr into the race) but eventually finnished in 108th in a time of 04:01:46. A pretty good result as it is the first time He has raced over such a long distance, and classic is not his best discipline.
