Poster: A snowHead

I bought a pair of Salamon X Fade 8.0 for my trip to the 3 Valleys in Jan (and where was the snow then ?!). I got 'em cause they were the only boots that seemed to fit my narrow little feet, but I like Salamon and they felt good in the shop. They were heat fitted and were ok for a few days but then the foam of the right inner developed a hard little node just at the side and below the ankle, and that hurt like hell. So I took them to the local boot specialist in Les Menuires who heat fit them again, then expanded the outer shell, then added some pressure releasing pads to the inside boot and finally, cut the offending node out of the inner and slapped on a bit of gaffer. Splendid. Well it did the trick and I was pain free. But should this be happening with new and supposedly well made boots? I had a pair of Raichle before this and they were very comfortable. Anyone with X Fades or any other boots have similar problems? I'm thinking now of getting some custom fit inners so anyone know the best place in London for that. Please don't tell me it's Snow and Rock. Thanks y'all.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

I've had the same pair of Salamons for 2 seasons - they're compfy as hell. No, what happened to your boots shouldn't be happening ever. But sounds like it's a problem with the heat treatment process to fit the inners, not the actual boot materials themselves.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

G-Rock, Profeet in Fulham. You'll find lots of comment on them if you enter 'profeet' into the search form (on drop-down menu from 'user Facilities').

And just to reinforce laundryman's advice, M Coins went to Profeet last weekend. He has terrible feet - truly flat footed, due to falling off a wall when a kid (trying to look into the girls' changing room apparently ) and smashing his ankles. They said at Profeet that any flatter and they'd be curving outwards. His inside ankle bones have dropped and bulged out as a result. He also had a road accident as a kid, got knocked over by a lorry, and has a steel pin in his thigh, with the result of one leg being longer than the other. All this has caused real probs with boot fitting.
Profeet do a 3D image of your feet, showing where your pressure points are, before and after they've sorted your boots. He says they certainly feel a lot better now but the proof will be in the skiing! £99 well spent, in his eyes, for a 2 hour consultation and fitting.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Also remember that the £99 includes custom footbeds; the fee isn't only for their fitting service. I can also happily recommend Profeet.

G-Rock, I had exactly the same problem with my Salomon X waves when I bought them about 4 years ago. They (Snow and Rock) told me that my ankle bone was in a different place from the ankle bone depression in the boot. Don't know whether this was right or not but heating and pressing out the offending area has done the trick. But I agree I don't think this should happen. I too am thinking of Profeet. But my problem is not just the foot but short legs (and if I'm honest slightly bandy!! - oh well - I probably won't ever meet any of you and you won't know it's me if I do ...........) - so, do they look at the whole alignment of the boot and ski as well as the foot fit?

Jane, I can recommend profeet too. They certainly do look at the whole alignment and they video you on a skiing machine to make the assessment.

Well - that certainly sounds as if it might be worth the £99. All I have to do now is make the decision ........ and persuade my sceptic husband!

Sorry, missed this orignally. Yes, I had exactly that problem with some Xwaves. I had them pushed and replaced the internal footbed, I don't mean the one in thge inner but the plastic one inside the shell. For some reason it's incrdedibly high and can push the foot upwards giving the pain you describe.
Just to be sure, we're talking about pressue on the outside of the foot around the flexor retinaculum area ?
