Poster: A snowHead
|
I am looking for recommendations of restaurants which serve local Austrian food at reasonable prices in the town centre (used to love Cafe Sailer but I think the closed recently).
I will be arriving in resort at a reasonably early hour and could potentially ski from 3pm. If I buy a 9 day ski pass (starting the next day) would they allow me to ski that afternoon for free? (I seem to remember a similar situation in Verbier many years ago where they offered that possibility).
As for guided off piste skiing I assume Graham Austick is still the guide of choice?
Cheers.

snowman, This website is good for recommendations http://www.st-antonamarlberg.co.uk/ Presuming that Cafe Sailer was at foot of Hotel Sailer? Stayed there this year on boys trip - hated the hotel as it was full of chain smoking instructors. Would recommned Funky Chicken and attached Pomadoro (??spelling) for decent food at good prices and great atmos. Not traditional Austrian food though. Not sure on the lift pass thing but you can buy half day passes - might be worth checking out the Rendl for half a day as this might be cheaper.
Graham Austick does seem to be THE man but not used him. People have very different opinions of him on this site.
Enjoy the trip

St Antonio, in Nasserein, does great pasta and pizza meals at a reasonable price.

According to the ski-pass price list which I have in front of me (going out there on 18th Jan), passes are only valid from 4.00pm the day before their start date.

Im going to St Anton on 8th march with 7 work mates, mainly huge men that drink pints for brekfast.
I would like gluhwein for lunch - where is best?

The St Antonio, would agree with the food there. Also if the pomadoro (attached to funky chicken) is the pizza restaurant I would second that. Reasonable price, decent food, but MENTAL busy when I went in (wednesday). Best I found for austrian food during lunch was the Hospiz Alm over in St Cristoph down at the bottom of blue 8 leading to the st cristoph lift (get to blue 8 from the galzig).
Ski pass I think I paid €224 for 7 days at the shop at the bottom of nasserein.
With regards to the afternoon free, I don't think so but pretty sure they do half day passes.

As stated by Davehk the liftpass is only valid for the last halfhour of the day prior, still, it gets you in the mood and you can also do the apres in the Mooserwirt.

boabski, thanks very good link with plenty of useful recommendations.
Skiing after 4pm....always better than just looking at the white stuff. This will also give me some pointers wrt boot adjustments as I remember having some problems with them last time.
