admin, just logged on: what a wonderful picture - it has cheered me up after a rather frustrating day (didn't make the ski show as I had hoped). The front News Page is an excellent development. So, now we just need more snow.....

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Photo of same piste taken at 11 this morning, telephoto + digital zoom. Quite sunny at the time, but note the strange effect of the sunlight which didn't reflect at all off the natural snow, while glistening in the artificial snow from the cannons. Hence the strange pattern from top to bottom of the slope....

PG, Does the fact that there is "cannon-made" snow up there suggest they expect it to last?

Yes, they've been doing that on and off for the past couple of weeks, well before there was any snow lying on the ground...

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

PG, that must confuse the local wildlife.

What a difference a day makes ...
Still the good news is that although the snowline is gradually moving upwards (2500 today, 3000 by Thursday) it should spare the Tignes glacier, hovering between 2800 and 3000 until the weekend. Quite a lot of precipitation too, those heading for the Toussaint hols at Grande Motte could be in luck....

You know it makes sense.

Great picture PG but were you paragliding or have you zoomed in from the Versant de Soliel
I cant work out where you'd get that shot from.

chaletarc a strange optical effect - it does look as if it's taken from above... but in fact was taken with a powerful zoom from right down at 850m on the "Versant du Soleil", just a couple of hundred metres from the college in Bourg ..
