Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I'm heading out there with my gf and her sister (sharing a room to cut costs-aren't i the lucky one wink ) on Sun 9th-Wed 12th December and i just can't wait. I have a couple of questions for Joanne Mountainsun or anyone else in the know-firstly how much of the area is likely to be open at that time (i spent a month in Tignes 5 years ago from mid-Dec till mid-Jan and the whole area was open more or less when i got there at about the 15th)-was i just lucky that year or is there a chance that the link to Val might be open and maybe even be able to ski right the way back to the hotel or am i asking too much? The other question is what new lifts have they got there since i was last in Tignes 2 seasons ago -i've heard the old palafours been replaced anything else?

Atomic_Mick, Espace Killy is due to open 25 November IIRC, but obviously that is snow dependent. Last season was delayed for a couple of weeks I think because of poor snow, but for your dates in a typical season I'd say you'll have a reasonable choice of terrain to keep you happy for the short break.

Atomic_Mick,

Yes the Palafour lifts have been replaced with a high speed 6 seater Blush Blush Much faster, but not as good for marmote spotting in the spring.

The Tichot lift/drag has also been replaced, with a high speed chair, in Val Claret.

Not sure about what's new for this season but hopefully the Tufs chair

Bus stop right outside the hotel. The hotel does in house ski hire, local hire shops are obviously up in Le Lac etc.

The only area guaranteed open is the glacier. Anything other than that would be a bonus, but you have to assume that it's just glacier skiing.

All the Espace Killy should be open by the 9th December. Last year was supose to be a bad 'season' but the majority of Tignes was open by this date Blush Blush

Hi, I have just joined the forum, after booking to go on the Boot Camp, then deciding maybe I should find out a bit about it before I go. I have got some great info reading through this thread Very Happy but was wondering what the snow is like on the Glacier and how easy is it to ski on (I don't do ice !) I haven't been skiing for 5 years as I have had 5 operations on my foot and knees in that time and I am struggling to find a pair of boots to fit my poorly foot, so thought this was the ideal opportunity to try and find some. I am going on November 24th, all the December dates had gone by the time I had talked myself into going !!

Well it's white and slippery.
wink

The Glacier is ice, but the snow on top of the ice is the same as any other snow.

Regarding your boots, I suggest you see a proper bootfitter, such as CEM in Bicester before you go.

rolling eyes Thanks, it is like most snow then Laughing

I am going with a friend who has skied there before, but all she keeps saying is the snow will be limited and icy and I will mainly be on ice, which contradicted a lot of info on the ski sites, but now I am clear, it is snow on ice. snowHead

Thanks for the advice about CEM, Bicester is 140 miles from me, but I will se what I can do before I go, there is a bootfitter near me, but my last boots never did fit comfortably, and that was before the 2 operations, so I wouldn't want to go back there now.

As far as I'm aware there's only either the chair out of Le Breverie or La Boisse(sp) being replaced with another fixed grip chair. Can't for the life of me remember where I read it though to find out which one.

I know what you mean about Tuf's one of the worst lifts still left in the Alps IMHO for a major link. Had a debate with someone last year whilst in Tignes about it's importance, but it seems a no brainer to me require a link on that side of the hill to get back to Le Lac.

pippivixen, On the boots front i'd wait and see if any of the Atomic boots you get to test at the boot camp suit you and if none do, i'd reccomend going to see the guy at Nevada Sports in Tignes le Lac he's not the cheapest but he's very good as that is all he does is fit and supply boots-the French national team go to him for their boots too.
