Poster: A snowHead
|
A group of us are off to Soll next week, could I have recommendations on the apres front pls?
We're all late twenties / early thirties so nothing too messy - decent bars with a good atmosphere suits...
Any restaurant recommendations for our night off from catering very welcome too!
Thx

It's a small place. For Austrian après there is a bar at bottom of the home red run on the right hand side. It looks quiet on the outside but is lively.
Salvanstadt which is the self proclaimed 'best bar in town' is decent as is the whiskey mule. It's a bit weird as the mule hires men to stand on the road on the way back from the gondola and say 'whiskey tonight lads,' as you pass.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The Red Horse is good for Apres with 3 different bars so should be something to suit all. Would definitely recommend the Salvenstadt for Apres, especially when Frog on the Tyne are playing if looking for something a bit livelier.
Food at Giovanni's in the villiage was lovely.

Any good German cheesy europop ones in Ellmau, while we are on that subject please?

Après ski? Hexenalm on the left as you walk down the hill. Great craic for cheesy Euro sing along tunes, if you want a British sing a long the yeah the stadl but we prefered the "witchy-bar", when in Rome etc.

@joe1978, thanks. Will try the Hexenalm. Is that in Söll or Ellmau?

It's been a couple of years since I've been, but the Moonlight bar (i think it's still called that) by the lift station is a good starting place, then to Hexenalm, which as @madlondoner says looks deceptive. Quiet outside, but if you go in at the right time or stay long enough you'll see the locals dancing in ski boots on the tables.
Then down to Salvenstadl, which is not only the Best Pub In Town, but is 100% Best Pub In Town...
Rossini's is a bit further down on the other side of the road and is a bit more chilled and sophisticated.
Whiskey Mule (as it was the last time I went in) was a bit a flea pit and had a very distinct smell, but lots of the reps and ski instructors seem to like it and it's worth a visit.
Food wise there is a nice restaurant above the Whiskey Mule and I'd suggest trying the Hotel Post Wirt on the cross roads
As I said, it's a couple of years since I've been, so some of these may have changed

Hexenalm is always friendly and fun with many different nationalities mixing well. In the evening the small bar at the Postwirt often has live music and a good atmosphere.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Salvenstadl and Whiskey Muhle for us. Hexenalm wasn't up to much, but that's because there was no skiing in to Soll at Christmas, the Dj was certainly trying hard to drum up an atmosphere though!
The best Grostl in town is at the little bar/restaurant opposite the Whiskey Muhle, Soller Stuben. Dorf Stubn was also very good.
