Poster: A snowHead

A group of snowHeads have decided to take part in a charity event.
"What's so special about that?" I hear you ask.
Well, this is a UK based charity that specialises in providing respite holidays for families fighting cancer as well as funding research into the health providing aspects of being involved in mountain based sporting activities.
The team:
ScarpaTheAvalanchePoodle
kooky
flangesax - both of them.
Lots more to come.
We are also working on a fancy dress element. We will provide the choices of costume, you simply pay to see photos of us doing runs in them. There are rumours going around that kooky will ski a run clad in nothing but a pair of snowHead buffs.
SHAAG tackle Mount Everest.
Set up by a team of skiing and snowboard enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Ski 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of alpine based respite breaks for British families affected by cancer. We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. skiing) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.
On Tuesday the 11th of March 2014, the SnowHeads Austrian Adventures Gang (also known as SHAAG!) are attempting to ski the vertical height of Mount Everest in just one day.
Their challenge will take place in the Austrian ski resort of Zauchensee.
This is a BIG challenge. Mount Everest stands at 29,029 feet or 8,848 metres above sea level.
That's as high as most airlines fly or the height of 3,400 household staircases!
Please sponsor the team to complete the challenge and leave your words of encouragement below!
Thank you for your support.

Oh god, there will be many, many runs from the top of the mountain to the bottom that day. How embarrassing could it be?

ScarpaTheAvalanchePoodle, I do seem to remember chatting about various costume designs incorporating the iconic snowHeads buff. I recall mention of a mankini. Only one snowHead came to mind as being brave/stupid enough to actually wear one. I wonder who that might have been...

ScarpaTheAvalanchePoodle, Done. Looking forward to the photos also!

ScarpaTheAvalanchePoodle, Can your outfit (and I don't mean the mankini) deal with Charities Aid Foundation cheques?

pam w, I've given up with CAF - too clunky, now that one can so easily make the appropriate declaration when giving.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Start off with them all on then strip off a layer each run

I saw that done in Austria, one evening with floodlit skiing. The local ski club did it, and extremely tedious it was, too, watching them go round even a shortish draglift. Pedantica, Yes, you are probably right about CAF - just force of habit. I have a monthly Direct Debit which probably means I actually give more than I would if doing it ad hoc as the months come round so fast! I should probably change the arrangement, but for the moment, that's the way it is.

ScarpaTheAvalanchePoodle, if something gets arranged for the week I'm there (22nd-29th March), I'll gladly participate. It's only at least twice as far as I have ever skied in a day. Gulp!

Megamum, Mr Pieholeo, thank you…..beers are on me if you are out here!
Megamum, the weather forecast is for minus and snow so I think skiing in a buff may not quite be my idea of "fun"……it´s a case of grit yer teef, stuff some ski socks down there and get on with it

Megamum, sitting next to Scarpa in the gondolas must figure quite high on that list, he´s kind of boring!

Do not fear. I am planning on giving a series of in-gondola lectures on the history of blister treatments, taking in the development of the blister plaster and perhaps even broadening onto spray on skin.
