Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Went back to the Hochkönig area today with a friend and this time we did ski the whole Königstour, from the Maria Alm to Mühlbach and back. We started at the Abergbahn at 10:20 and were in Mühlbach exactly two hours later. After an extra run down into Mühlbach from the Karbachalm we lunched at the Fellersbachalm. Leaving there at 13:30 we arrived back at the Schwarzeckalmbahn (the last lift you have to take to get back to Maria Alm) about 15:10 and still had time for a little more skiing on the Maria Alm pistes. We weren't racing but we weren't hanging about either. Here is our Skiline...

And here a photo taken at the top of the Hochmais lift with the Hochkönig in the background taken in the morning...

And another one taken lower down that run on our way back, looking over Hinterthal to the point where the mountains of the Steinernes Meer (on the left) meet the Hochkönig range.

The weather was fantastic. The powder snow of last Saturday had disappeared, replaced by firm pistes. Only at the very end, on the run back down to Maria Alm were the pistes more glossy hard.

Today's plans are now on hold, the warmer air has reached us sooner than forecast, + temps below about 1700m at the moment. Was hoping for a little ski tour but not in above zero and maybe rain later. Only a temporary blip as set to cool and lots of snow forecast for the next 3 or 4 days. Looks like a piste centric morning, if I can remember what the edges of the skis are for.

Quick update...it's now snowing, still says +3 outside, so hopefully a sign of the colder air pushing in already.

A wet and soggy day. Only skied a couple of hours this morning. To start with was not too bad higher up, enjoy some nice off piste, the snow was heavy with some fresh on top but the temps nudge up some more and suddenly it was wet porridge, that was the time to end the ski day. Been warm and raining on and off the rest of the day, just driven back home, the last few miles were the worst road conditions we've had. These roads are lightly travelled so have been snow covered since the first snow in December. This evening the roads are a quagmire of slush and compacted ice, just made it up to the apartment without chains, was really a chains kind of day. If it freezes it will be a tad slippery tomorrow but hopefully some nice fresh cold snow will help.

So I've not got the connector for the phone to the laptop and can't send my email a message from my phone - not a smart one obviously - so it will be words only for now. Arrived in Maria Alm yesterday - Flangesaxes we do love you and Radstadt and will def be back at some point before too long we hope - so we thought a different bit of Ski Amade was worth a look.
Staying about 100m from chair/gondola mixed lift and only a quick push to the T-bar where we tried to find our ski legs along with many small children who kept not quite getting to the top. Much snow and easy to ski tho it was raining for much of today at all levels. But the Hungarian waiter this evening assures us 30cm snow is on its way......
After an interesting time on a very red red - I'm not known for courage- we left the raceskiers training and caught the bus round to Aberg. Up to the top and down to Hintermoos and pretty good soft cover almost everywhere -Dave says on the slushy side but I'm happy whenever it isn't ice...... Still raining outside just now so not sure what tomorrow will bring. Pics will have to wait but reckon the webcams are going to give a reasonable idea.
Oh planning to do Konigs tour but being a bit on the less speedy side thinking of sections update tomorrow if time and energy etc allow.

Pumping it down with big flakes this morning. Temps at 1000m dropped from +6 last night to 0, set to keeping cooling. The snow level taken a beating from yesterday, don't need to many rainy days like that. Set to keep snowing for next few days.

Hi guys!

Am looking at a catered chalet in Maria-Alm for a week from 4th-11th February.

Dare I ask if I should expect any snow issues?!

Kind regards

View up slopes at Hinterreiter late pm today - plenty snow, wind not a problem at this altitude. Had been up Abergbahn in the morning but due to being blown backwards came back down - it was then shut as were most lifts for a while in the entire Hochkoenig region except drag lifts. Need to hope low pressure round Greenland becomes less of a problem. Still hoping to do some of Kings Tour but not holding breath.

Crazy powder! Started out this morning with wet snow after yesterdays rain. Wasn't expecting a super powder day, started off with the big ski race of the weekend, my sons ski school race, he wasn't last, not bad since all the other kids are locals. Was snow and blowing hard all morning and indeed all day. At lunchtime friends were texting of the very deep powder in zauch. So I made the 25mins drive down the road thinking this better be worth it. Got there and had a few hours of face shot after face shot, untracked powder galore, just me, a few friends and a mountain loaded with powder.

Still pumping it down, aiming to get 8:15 lift tomorrow for some action closer to home on Planai, gonna be good.

The route is well marked with pointers like you can see in the pictures, yellow for Maria Alm to Mühlbach, orange for Mühlbach to Maria Alm. We didn't have any trouble following them (though I do know the area a little). There was only one spot where a pointer was missing, at the King's Cab lift, I think, but that didn't confuse us. The pistes are mostly wide and cruisy. Enjoy it!

Looks like the snow has eased up the morning, though forecast more heavy snowfall this afternoon and of course more snowfall Tuesday as it always snows for the schladders night race.

Dachstein shows 91cm in last 2 days at 2700m, total now 491cm, I believe Dachstein is closed until Feb, not sure why, maintenance? With that much snow the ski touring and off piste routes will be well filled in.

Taken this pm - at Hintermoos. Back in Maria Alm have just seen another lorry load of snow go round the corner - and its still snowing. Bulldozers been working since 4am and still working hard.
Wind had dropped today except for the expected slightly blustery experience up at the tops.
Skiing in continuous fresh snow was for me far better than hard packed or icy pistes though resulted in chaos at times according to my husband who tended to be ahead of me as I am not known for speed and said he wasn't bored by the traffic!
