I'm sure you were fine. GM carpark was well full, but where thay'd all gone I have no idea, hardly saw anyone all day. Just a fluke I guess. It wasn't actually that cold either

The CdMB site is showing complete white out on all mountains today, including Les Houches! May be a good day to do some transceiver practise – which DVA park is the best, Flegere, GM or Le Tour?

eddiethebus, Brevent was crazy on Saturday. There was some kids slalom comp happening on the Stade and a freeride event on the Hotel Face. Then there were the heaving masses on the pistes, who mysteriously disappeared around lunch time and most never returned. May have been the cold, completely flat light and intermittent white out that drove them away.

Zero-G, Let me know how you get on with the beeper search. We did the one at Flegere. It was educational...

Zero-G, Yup, one ill-advised mid-morning piste run from the top of Cornu along with most of the population of a small town was enough to convince me that surviving to fight another day was the right call

under a new name, I think Zero-G, was correct, everyone just went home at lunchtime and the wx improved thereafter - good timing on your part, cynical lack of patience on mine

A couple of years back we got trapped up at Flegere, the home run was closed, and there was a queue to download which took until 7pm to clear, people got very cold and cross waiting. Something to be wary of when it's busy.

I have experienced this once but luckily not too cold at the time so just a long wait to deal with on the download and for the buses.
Heading out this Saturday for a week en famille et amis - so apologies that I am adding to the numbers on the slopes next week!

Wasn't feeling the love out there today. Skied top to bottom via the home run and got straight on the bus for the creature comforts of my apartment.
I'm up for a Snowheads Chx meetup when you're all next in town.

It never disappoints; even when the snow is sketchy it is fun.
I'm here until the snow melts and the blossoms appear, so any date is good for me.

I was in chamonix couple of weeks ago and landed skiing on me tot (well with aguide) http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=97672 I don't know how I missed this thread. I will be back 3 to 15 march and was wondering if anyone wanted to hook up for some off piste fun ? Day touring?

Arriving in les Houches for a short midweek break next Tue & Wed with my 12 yr old daughter.
Don't normally do half term because of the crowds, but have no option this year. How bad will it really be? Any hints about timing, lifts, lunches etc?
All advice gratefully received.
Many thanks,
CW

cardweg, hints; get your pass sorted the night before if possible, parking can be a challenge so use the bus, the prarion is usually ok but early is good, there is a secret chair up some steps at the back of the belle vue lift, there's a nice picnic room at top of the belle vue cable car, the prarion picnic room is horrible, there are a few nice small eating places on the mountain incl the luge but the track is tricky finally the pole pomma tows right over the back are difficult go for the chair. Have fun.

Still snowing this morning
PP, I don't know the area well enough to go out without a guide or someone with good local knowledge. If a group coalesces, I'll be up for it provided my fitness levels are up to it and I've put some time in on skins beforehand.

Well, that was an 'interesting' day. We skied in thick fog and kept losing each other because visibility was zero. And I had motion sickness the whole time from the lack of horizon (or any other discernible bloody feature). Can't say that was the most enjoyable day's skiing but on the plus side, it's still snowing

Thanks for this. I have lift pass cards already & hope to load them up online over the next few days.
You mention the bus and have got me wondering. We're staying near the St Antoine bus stop which should be fine for getting to & from the slopes, but since the buses seem to stop around 5:30, are long walks the only way to get around the village in the evening? I'd like to sample some of the food & entertainment around the base of the cable car this trip.

That counts for almost everything
I am aching all over today (obviously worked harder yesterday than I thought) but it's the first bluebird day in weeks – it would be rude not to get out there and enjoy some of the fresh snow that fell yesterday.

It was a refreshing change having sunlight and good contrast to see with today. The odd cloud swept over the mountains, reducing vis, but was quickly blown away.
Off piste snow was very tracked out and mogulled in some places and nicely chopped up (but soft enough to ski through the mounds, mostly) in others. It was far preferable skiing there than on the pistes, which were rammed. The chairlift queues were long today too. And people were getting testy and rude on the buses, pushing and shoving...
If anyone is thinking of coming here in the next month with the intention of skiing on piste and using the buses, don't. The French school holidays haven't even started but the madness has already begun

A colossal stampede in super slo-mo on the Midi arret today, but worth the waiting and line dodging for fresh tracks all the way down. Repeated the pleasure with a descent either side of le tour, hardly had to cross a track anywhere, all in sunshine and good viz, what a great day
