brian, a model of clarity, concision and mild asperity. As usual. Nice.

So I think you did actually imply it (it's you who imply, I who infer. ) |
No. Read into it what you like, I was referring to the expenditure/income structure of the equation. As stated. "Benefit" was used, not "freebie".
And yes, my grammar can be as marginal as my spelling, but, as I pointed out earlier, picking up on it doesn't make anyones opinion/argument any stronger. IMO, quite the opposite.
I'm off.

Brian I thought the Chalets forum quite clearly stated that it was for discussion about and NOT advertising of?
You also, mentioned how cash and a free ski pass seemed of more value. Surely in any holiday to the alps accommodation has to paid for at some point - anyhow not that those points really are the crux of the matter I think.
FWIW I have read a fair number of the previous postings and threads on the subject, and have never quite been able to get to grips with the issue. Clearly there is something that goes straight over my head. I will freely admit, that his style, esp. this year has been atagonistic, but if you can't see anything wrong with the intial premise, which sorry, I still can't then he has had a certain amount of provocation. If you can everything wrong with the premise then I guess you argue that the provocation is justified. I just look to something like smallholding. Now there is an ever willing band of people who often without payment (if you live somewhere nice) will come and house sit and look after stock for a week for you, allowing you to go off on holiday, and let them visit somewhere that they wouldn't otherwise have had the chance to visit. Again a barter system where everyone is the winner and no cash changes hands. On the current premise I wouldn't be allowed to ask on SH if anyone wanted to fulfill that role for me if I ever needed anyone. This seems odd.
N.B. I'm not trying to be antagonistic, I'm just genuinely puzzled.

Haven't kept up with this but Megamum, I think if you read Admin's reply he too regards it as a bit of a grey area. It is the subsequent aggressive postings directed at the mods who have been trying to their job which has incurred his ire.
Seems to me that if you post politely you may well 'get away' with a bit more than if you start abusing other posters and mods' bit like life really.

T Bar, and well it should, they have a thankless task and all make a good fist of it - Thanks to you all mods and Admin without you and SH's we would all be poorer - though doubtless get far more done with our lives I also noted Admin's comment on the subject.

and the complete lack of any input - no contribution of any kind to the "community life" to which he rather belatedly professed a great attachment.

For megamum and those others who might be still wondering: links in signatures do no show up in google searches, they are only visible to registered snowheads. For this reason, signatures are not normally moderated, unless we get people who are posting ONLY to spam us (e.g. I zapped an "SEO specialist" today who was posting rubbish simply to get his link made visible).
The "chalets and apartments" forum as has been mentioned is for discussing the facilities and reviews rather than advertising them : e.g. does anyone know chalet XXXX in resort YYYY, what's it like?". Someone has started a thread to collate links to all places owned by snowheads, that's not bad things as it makes a handy way of possibly finding a place owned by someone who hopefully you can trust (as a fellow snowhead) and helping the site (as I would imagine that any bookings by snowheads would result in the owner contributing to snowheads). There's nothing formal in place though - and it's worth mentioning also that I have yet top hear anyone say "my signature link is brilliant, it gets me most of my business. I personally have not had anything through my sig link (might as well remove it!) and at least two other SHs have indicated that they've received little or no business at all
Dwarf Vader, enjoy your time away and come back refreshed. If I didn't feel that as a mod I need to check in from time to time to zap the baddies, I'd do the same myself.

With the greatest of respect, I'm not quite sure how that makes you special.
I'm not sure if I'm included/excluded/not even considered, in the group you wouldn't "wee" on, as, TBH, I don't care.
Sorry about the rant, but that quote I found insulting, not just to me but others who post in good faith.
In the meantime, enjoy your summer.

nbt, That's interesting info. Thanks for the update. It was a genuine question and not meant to have a dig at anyone. The more I understand about how this place runs the easier it is to understand why certain things happen.

You're right I completely lost the plot.

You don't even lift a finger to let us know how it all went? |
True but not exaclty that hard for those who wanted to look

The continuing matter would have been far better dealt with via PM. |
I agree, I did send a PM, but I got no response. A simple reply to say 'Im thinking about it', probably would have stopped things going from bad to worse.

you would have expected them to come on to share their experience with prospective applicants? |
Why? Its not for their benefit.
And besides the open thread does not in general contain prospective applicants, at least who are willing to admit it, with a couple of brave exceptions.
