Poster: A snowHead
|
After about 15 yrs skiing in a pair of padded sallopettes that weren't new when I got them, I've finally bought a new pair - Haglofs Varsi 2, half price from Sport Pursuit. The question is will I notice a big difference in warmth? Has anyone else made the switch?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

I've a pair of Marmot shell salopettes and layer underneath depending on the weather. When it's cold I've a pair of Sweet Saviour pants, just merino baselayer when it's a little warmer and in Spring weather just a pair of briefs. Depends how much you feel the cold though.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks, Claude B, most of my skiing is Dec/Jan, and up till now I've only needed a merino baselayer. The Saviour pants look a good job!

Tom Doc, notice? Almost certainly. There's no insulation in shells. There would be some sort of insulation in what you just cast off.
A 200 odd weight fleece legging will probably compensate, around 15£ from decathlon.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I tried it out last season as a bit of research into a new brand we have. Skied in Feb, March (France and Scotland) and April (Scotland) with merino baselayer or just underwear in March in France and was fine. Never needed the fleece trousers even in Scotland but did keep them in my rucksack! They're Skogstad 3-layer shell. Very flexible/ stretchy and fully waterproof. Clever stuff and incredibly comfortable to wear.

I use Helly Hansen base and the Australian/Dutch Merino in the baltic regions.
