Make sure you try all of the ski areas in the valley - some really good areas that are totally unheard of in the UK - eg Kaltenbach, Gerlos, Koenigsleiten .
A while since we've been but I seem to recall nice pizzas in the dome shaped place next to Hotel Elisabeth; and we've enjoyed a few visits to the town's Chinese restaurant; the Hohenhaus at Hintertux is my favourite apres ski joint.
I would think it will be a great place to spend a season.

Cheers guys, much appreciated!
Defo keen to board literally everywhere, will defo check out your recommendations. Ill be going late Nov so will have enough time to explore and pick my favourite runs, ill be out ski hosting quite often so id rather take my guests on the best runs.
Another Q, drinks prices? France was pretty expensiveo on the whole, how does it compare with Austria, its my first time in Austria.
Thanks again

Some more new lifts in Kaltenbach this year. At least one more 8 seater heated chair.
Don't remember any eating places in Mayrhofen. Only place I remember is the Ice Bar, and I only remember that cos I didn't actually go in. The only thing most clientele from there remembered was the stonking hangover the next morning.
Will probably be there for a weekend in January again. Usually do a day in Kaltenbach and another in Zillertal Arena. Might see about doing a day in Mayrhofen instead of one of those, since I've not been there in over 10 years. Must be decent parking by Horbergbahn?

Anywhere in Austria will be between €3.20 and €3.80 for a beer. On the mountain, in the bars, in a hotel in Innsbruck, doesn't matter, they don't distinguish location as much. the €3.80 will be a weissbier, which is usually a little larger / more expensive. Unless of course prices have gone up since last year.

Awesome, that beats paying 7 euro a pint in France. Did a season in Alpe d'huez and it was pretty expensive, good times though.
I heard about this new chairlift. Still seems like the main penken will be pretty over crowded but what you guna do, cant have everything

3.8 sounds dear for a weissbier.

There was another place down past Neue Post and Kramerwirt. Forget the name, but it's where half the (British) reps get their guests starting the pub crawl (probably cos it's at one end of town).
My only advice is... don't start buying rounds for the Dutch punters. They outnumber Brits 2 to 1 and drink like a fish, and you'll end up buying €50 rounds if you're not careful. And Grolsch is what they'll be selling in the Ice Bar I expect. Nasty nasty stuff.

Cheers Andy, solid advice! I can put away a fair amount of beer but I want to save some cash this season as ive had a pay rise and plus reps tend to be out often. Defo buying a snowbombing pass tho in December - done that by any chance andy/anyone?

Bar at the start is Kino bar... you wont go there more than once unless you are friends with the reps. Cheapest drinks in town is winwin, tiny casino opposite neue post.
if you are loud and "cool" you will be in scotland yard every night
Hard into freestyle it's gasthof zillertal
Loud a bit of an alcoholic and easy then Buck'n stadl
In love with a dutch girl (or working for roten profis) Eis Bär
poor and lonely or wanna watch football then winwin

Think dulcamara, has pretty much summed it up, however I would add Pizza and Durum's at Funkys. You get all the English games at Movie bar and there is also a betting shop where you can watch them and get cheap drinks. Depending on where you are living, in the busy weeks it can be quicker to get the ski bus to the Horbergbahn. Price of beer varies depending on where you are, however there are enough places that do 0.5l for 3.50 and so at current exchange rate cheaper than UK.

Nachtcafe Apropros - bar crawls go there early on and a good seasonnaires hang out. Happy hour that goes on for ages, pool & darts, best earlier on before moving to Scotland Yard.

If you're working for one of the big T/O's my advice is to try and make best use of your time and prepare properly because once you get into xmas/new year you won't get any time to yourself at all
As mentioned above Apropo's is a good hang out and Scotland Yard pre season good too, chicken wings dipped in chilli sauce used to be lush. The Yard gets rammed though once season gets underway.
Mo's good to eat and the occasional live music and movie bar looks after reps quite well once you get to know the owner Rudi
Schlussl Alm good for an old fashioned Austrian apres ski
Some discounts and freebies for reps but pays to build up relationships
Up on the mountain Krista's Schi Alm good place for lunch particularly on a sunny day but my favourite was the restaurant at the mid station down to Finkenberg.
Best skiing down the valley in Kaltenbach and Zell an Ziller. Plenty of off piste options abound, but working for a T/O you won't be venturing off piste will you.
Overall Mayrhofen is a great place to rep, work hard play hard and you'll have a great season.

Some good options there thanks guy? I was quite friendly with the reps on last years season in alpe d'huez so i got a good insight into their saily routine. Mayrhofen seems to be very popular with young folk so im sure ill get some fun guests and its my job to have a good time with them so im sure ill be busy but entertained also! It beats being stuck in a hotel cleaning toilets all morning with a hangover, I was fortunate enough to run the bar so i avoided that but the poor suckers i worked with had to do that! i got the impression that reps had the best job in town if you're the right kind of character and I think I am so should be a good season! although some reps were deuche bags but you get them everywhere i guess.
I will be ski hosting a few days yea but we will probably take it in turns, thats what our reps did, share the load a little. When im not hosting ill session the off piste for sure.
Ever done snowbombing by chance?

Hi Boardfluff. Mayrhofen a great place to rep. Remember one of my managers saying Mayrhofen the toughest place to work on transfer day but the best place for the rest of the week.
Escorting great down the valley. love Kaltenbach with its wide open pistes and great snow record and Zell, Gerlos, Koenigsleiten
Been involved around the fringes of snowbombing, was around when it started and know the organisers a little, a great event and something to look forward to at the end of the season though actually prefer when the crazy dutch are still around, much quieter when they're gone by late March.
Plenty of offpiste, good ski routes back to the Mayrhofen bowl from Rastkogel/Eggalm, and down the valley, seems to get tracked out less quickly than many other ski areas I know.
Repping better than bog cleaning for sure, my repping days now passed but had some great times in the hoff

My manager said it was a tough resort to rep but to be honest I dont want an easy ride, really looking forward to the challenge. I was envious of the reps lifestyle and since getting into mountain life ive always fancied Austria so ive done alright now id say. Just cant wait to get out there and sample all these recommendations ive been given. Ive heard that the dutch are a bit mental so that should be a laugh!

Ghost Dog, Schlussl has shut now, it was the disco to the right hand side(as you look at it) of the Brucke hotel. Think they made it into some more rooms and a wellness bit

Has Schlussl closed? Noooooooooooooo!!!!!! The best club in the world. They made the best kebabs in the world! A mate of mine told me that he would happily eat one when sober, although why you would be sober in Schlussl I can't imagine.
That would leave Arena as the only club in town and that place is absolutely diabolical....

It's not all bad news you can still get the kebab if you go to funkys as it was the same people.
Reckon they do well enough out of bruck n stadl and so binned schlussel off.

The one thing that sticks in my mind about mayrhofen was the queues, queues to get up to the slopes up the helter skelter and queues to get back down at night, the bar at the top of the slope had a camera trained on the hordes of people waiting to get back down so people just stayed in the bar longer!

Queues on the Penken are so bad at peak times. Easily avoided by getting the bus to the Horbergbahn though. Sitting on a bus for five minutes is better than standing in a queue for 40 minutes....

Mayrhofen,What a place
1 skiing absoutely top notch but avoid penken worst skiing in whole area with runs rutted out by dinner time,Head for zellam ziller ,Kaltenbach or for the best powder up to hintertux. The area is huge
2 Apres main spots are elk bar at top of penken and in town bruckn stadl and ice bar.For a slower pace try the harikri bar the movie bar and later on scotland yard
3 food is pretty good everywher but you got to try the gasser(butchers next to penken lift)met sandwiches to die for!!
Headin to soll this janurary but will definetly be back to the hoff
