In a sign of increasing resort development across Asia, the Ford Motor Company is planning a $250 million ski village in the Himalayas. Alfred Ford, great-grandson of the company's founder Henry Ford, is seeking a site in Himachal Pradesh at unusually high altitude - 2400m to 2700m.
"We have surveyed several spots including, Manali, Chanshal, and Kangra mountains, besides a couple of places in the neighbouring hill state of Uttaranchal," said John Robert Sim, managing director of the company...

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Some obstacles still remain, according to this article:

Efforts by Alfred Ford, great-grandson of Henry Ford, to build a $250 million ski resort in Himachal Pradesh, have come up against a wall of bureaucratic red tape and indecisiveness. |

A company official said: "Some 100 hectares would be needed to build hotels, parks, malls, cable cars, ski slopes and even an airport. It would be built in the traditional Himalayan style architecture which will involve no displacement of people."
Once the ski village comes up, the company plans to hold international skiing tournaments. It does not rule out holding even the winter Olympics.
Alfred Ford, who has married an Indian, has been closely involved with the Hare Krishna movement in the US and India. |

Go-ahead given today by the regional government, so despite all the earlier delays construction should go ahead next year, with the village expected to be operational by 2010.

An update on this long-running story from The Financial Times today, reporting that the project hangs in the balance:

The government argues that the proposal, which is being financed mostly by wealthy individuals, is not acceptable in its present form because of environmental issues while proponents of the resort say it has become a test case of the difficulties facing foreign direct investors in India, particularly those forced to deal with state administration. |

PG, Rather than just a meet, why not a snowheads resort... I though Admin was after some more commercial links . Just need to club together and buy a bit of mountain next to the resort and wait for it to become the 4th valley...
