Poster: A snowHead
|
I hoping to get back on skis next winter after a 4 year, financially enforced break.
I was just wondering, how out of style will my K2 Apache Crossfires be?
Thanks

You any good? Then they will be fine.
Do people really go round looking at skis and and fusing them?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

If I knew what "fusing" meant I could probably answer that question.

wasn't obvious to me - there are plenty of expressions I don't know. If there are people who do that, then they're idiots and not worth bothering about. One pair of skis I use regularly (Rossignol Attraction V) were a year or so old when I bought then second hand about 4 years ago. They are fine.

Wasn't obvious to me either as one has 7 letters and the other 6.

Shouldn't worry about it. As long as the bindings are in good order and the bases are sound you can ski on anything.
People don't diss old skis so much as raise eyebrows at the curiosity value...but 4 years old is new compared to some I've seen.
New skis don't get noticed much either..people ski over them in queues all the same

The only skis that get dissed are long straights if the user is lacking in the skills department, some users can carry it off. Those that are happy to spend Euro 50 on a lift pass but too mean to update kit 20 years down the line and as a result skid around like tranquilized giraffes possibly get a bit of underbreath haw haw factor.
4 years old is unfashionably modern in some places - did you buy them new? Retail? Are you made of money?

I rode a lift with a couple, where the guy had immensely long straight skis, not to mention rear entry boots. I headed down a black run, a bit bumpy, in my usual careful fashion but was feeling quite pleased with what, for me, was a decent turn of speed when the guy absolutely shot past me, 110% under control, just flying down - extremely impressive. He was showing off to his bird. Best skier on that run, that day, by a country mile. But I did wonder why he wasn't taking advantage of more modern gear.
