Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Chamonix discuss....

Went over for first trip of the season hoping for some decent action.

Got there just after 9 and waited over half an hour for the cable car from the base station at Argentiere. And then another hour at Lognan for the GM bin. It's a complete whiteout, we aren't going to put skis on before 11am and we aren't doing that queue again. This should be a quiet sunny Sunday after Easter. We would have walked onto Mt Fort or Mt Gélé. Why did we come to GM again?

Then the cloud breaks half way up the GM bin... Is this the best scenery in the world? And is that the Pas de Chevre looking relatively track free?

Decided against heading straight down into the clouds and we both had skins so asked a local guide if we were too late for the Col du Passon. Reply of "c'est bon" confirmed the plan for the day

Chris didn't mention his skins were new. Interesting spot for some DIY skin cutting

An hour and a half later and we're at the top. Nice views of a tracked out glacier!

Here's the last bit of the climb - bootpacking up a nice couloir

Plenty of space up here

Got a bit heavier on the way down but surprisingly good snow

Bit of combat skiing at the bottom

Cham love in tact but next time it's first lift and a GM bin booked in advance!

OMG, looks amazing! We spent part of our day in the combat skiing zone, was not pretty.

So many mixed emotions about Chamonix, great skiing, but hard to get to. Amazing mountains, but the lifts are old and slow, and you really need a local/guide to get the best out of it. Great photos by the way.

great skiing, but hard to get to

If it were easier to get to maybe it wouldn't be so great! Great report, as ever. snowHead
