Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

A snowHead
Hello,
Does anyone know of a shop in Chamonix or Les Houches that specializes in selling Vintage/used ski gear? I'd get a big kick out of picking up an old alps style ski sweater while I visit in Mid-May.
also any suggestions of where I might want to look at classic italian hiking boots (brands or special shops)? I'll be traveling down to Torino after our stay in Cham. Also Florence and Rome Prior to arriving in the alps
Cheers,
-James

, Hope you enjoy your trip to the Alps in May, sorry I can't help with recommendations on where to buy old style ski sweaters, apart from mentioning that you can buy new (but expensive) Norwegian ski sweaters from
Dale of Norway
.
On a tongue in cheek note, if you like 1980s fluorescent one piece skisuits I believe you can pick them up very cheaply on e-bay (we refer to them as fartbags over here)!
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

There is a second-hand clothes shop in Chamonix under the Mummery residence. It is called Secours Catholic but the opening hours are a bit erratic so check as soon as you arrive. You can find all sorts of stuff in there including sweaters and some very fetching one piece suits.

For footwear, extend your trip as far as Montebelluna, home of all mountain footwear, you'll be spoiled for choice.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

There's a charity shop in Sallanches that is popular for ski fancy dress.
