Everyone bangs on about fat vs skinny for on and off piste duties but I recon that a two ski quiver is the way to go for people who get more that a few weeks a year in.
One of our clients got some Head Titans 170 133x80x111 radius 14M turny, fairly heavy, damp, torsionally very stiff, hold a great edge and really rip on piste plus some Movement Trust's for off piste duties at 186cm 141x108x129 and very early rise tip rocker. Fairly light , stiffish, flat tail and a turn radius of 21m
Seems to me a very nice two ski quiver that can do anything and importantly have some cross over.. On mainly piste days Titans which are happy in variables and on mainly Off pites days Trusts which are okay on piste.
Any other thoughts ?

skimottaret, This year I've reverted to Rossi GS8's which seem to handle most things and christened a pair of 99 euro Coreupt POWs for powder days.
That said, having experimented with a couple of pairs of dedicated wider\rockers skis for off piste I'll probably try and find an 'all mountain' twin twip about 90 underfoot to use as an piste\off piste\powder all rounder and revert the GS8s back to being my sensible training ski.
Suggestions for a do it all twin tip welcome.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

skimottaret, if I only had one pair of skis, my Mantras do it all.
I'd probably add a pair of full on SLs for hardpack days if I had to.
I'm having enough trouble trying to work out what would be a perfect one ski 'quiver'.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

under a new name, No No No "not if you had only one pair" this thread assumes you can go mad and have two (I had mantras and sold em, too heavy, too stiff and not turny enough for my liking ) I find SL skis hard work all day but loads of fun..
AndAnotherThing.., I hate twin tips and binned karmas as they dont fit in gondolas.. I quite liked my Head Rev90's for touring and have bought some 105's as an off piste ski for next year.

Piste orientated ski ....
Titans (piste + shallow offpiste)
Atomic blackeye TI (piste + shallow offpiste)
Salomon 24hrs (piste only race ski that isn't too tiring)
Offpiste -
Very much rider ability, weight and use dependent
e.g. Touring, crud busting charger, etc

My current two ski quiver is:
Black Crows Corvus 185, 135-105-126 - My do it all ski. Used for everything from night piste bashing through to long tours and couloirs. Very stable, very traditional ski that likes hurtling. I'd ski nothing but this if I had no other choice.
Whitedot CarbonLite Redeemer 190 - Poooooowdaah! Well more just for variety and enjoying a more surfy ski experience. Ski acceptably on piste though, I spent the afternoon last Sunday pootling around with my girlfriend on them.
Both mounted with Dynafits.
I probably could throw in a piste ski but I'd rather get the miles on the kit I want to ski in more interesting terrain.
So I don't really have two skis to make my skiing easier in different conditions but more to have fun skiing in different ways.

Titans & lhasa pows do it for me.... Had titans in very very deep snow, worked surprisingly well if slope was steep enough to keep moving!
You know it makes sense.
You know it makes sense.
kitenski, I was on Titans on one of the deepest days of the year and although very slow they were okay but I would have been having much more fun on fatter skis. I will probably regret sticking this up but it is interesting to me at least how the different skis perform. Im having to be very bouncy to get the skis to turn, Guy in red is on Redeemers and surfing, the girls are 5 footers and on mid fats and cruising quite nicely and one of the lads in west ham colours is on 110's and ripping the best lines
Well maybe not as I was playing with the new Whitedot carbonlite Directors & Preachers yesterday - plus their new Ranger model which will also be in both their traditional & carbonlite lay-ups. The Ranger is gonna be a superb all mountain ski & a great tourer as well in the carbon version: 300-350mm rockered tip, 138-108-119 sidecut, 2mm camber, flat aluminium tail notched for skins, available in 168cm (21m), 177cm (24.5m), 186cm (28m) & a 195Pro (30.5m) slightly stiffer version.
A two ski quiver of Rangers & Redeemers will be right up their with my PM Gear's & in the traditional lay-up will be a lot less cash.

spyderjon, what are the ones on the right ? they dont look as though you could lay em over and rip some fat ass turns with big angles on piste

spyderjon, agree 100% on Redeemers and Rangers combo, going to push the boat out and get some Rangers next season. Currently my rockered Mantras are doing great but going to get 186 Rangers for all the reasons you suggest above.......mine will have to be a 3 pair quiver tho' like Mantras too much, Redeemers are just brilliant too.
Where did you play with them, are you away in Cham or Verbier?
Also what were those fancy touring bindings you were telling me you'd bought?

On the sizing for the Titan - do you go longer for offpiste or shorter for onpiste?
Markymark29, I played with 'em in snowy Nottingham . It was the new Dynafit Beast bindings that I've got coming: http://youtube.com/v/edFN-EMTMrU

I'm almost certainly smaller/lighter than you guys so I've always thought the Head Magnum or Salomon 24 hours for piste (once I give up pissing about with SL and GS race skis) but any suggestions for something a little stiffer and a smidgen wider than an S3 (say around 105mm)?
I had a pair of High Society Freerides 136-104-126 23m radius and a pair of Slalom Carvers 124-65-103 with 11.5m radius.
But this year I changed both and ended up with Lhasa Pows 140-112-120 39m radius and Movement Le Fer 124-77-108 with a 15m radius.
That's a bit fatter at the big end and skinnier at the thin end than your client, but so far I'm liking them both.

skimottaret, The left ones are the 191 Llasa Pow Fats & the ones on the right are also carbon hybrid but are their 179 Bro model which are a 99mm underfoot, 12mm camber, standard non-rockered tip & flat tail 32m radius all mountain/tourer/piste ripper. I've got the same ski in stock in a 188 which would be perfect for you - bought time we you off those basi'esque boards & on to something of the correct length/radius/weight for all mountain & touring

spyderjon, hmmm 99 underfoot and 32rad doesnt inspire as a primarily piste focussed ski... you will be getting some skis in November for "turbocharging" I have ordered next years Titans which are a smidge wider and a touch less turny than this seasons plus some race bindings and RDX plates to make em meaner..
going to try 191 long rev 105's with alpine bindings for a pow ski... touring setups are too specialised to count in a two ski quiver
I have heard from several good skiers that when they are on anything wider than 110 in firm snow their knees end up hurtin.. this is from guys that can ski properly...

Mike Pow, is that 3 dimensional etc....a recognised technique, I try to do that (not as good as you btw!) .......would be keen for some hints (either here but don't want to spoil the thread) or a PM if you get a minute sometime, just 3-4 key points.....assume it's thigh steering, narrow 50/50 platform stance, weight central, any other things I should be doing?

Nordica Soul Riders and Moment Bibby Pros. All I need, but I did just add some DOWN skis Countdown 7s for pow touring. Piste skis will continue to collect dust, if pistes aren't nice and soft I'd rather go and skin for something that is.

Here we are hitting the difference between narrow and wide skis.
Compare Mike Pow's clips above with this clip from 3:40.
Personally if I'm on or off piste the fun is not going down the mountain in an almost straight line but in leaving nice curvy tracks (big or small) behind.
