Poster: A snowHead
|
Sooooo.... In the market for some new salopettes, as I noticed my bog-standard black ones were getting pretty cut-up around the boot area (probably from previous years' falls!) this year.
I'm a 32-34 long.
Ideally looking for something around £50 (well, less if possible, but the budget will stretch to that range), and wanting something durable and reasonable looking. I looked on Amazon and GoOutdoors websites but their ranges are basically terrible. Any thoughts on these http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/monte-cargo-pant-p159218?
Wondered about visiting Go Outdoors or Castleford (Xscape) this weekend, but generally happy to buy online if it saves a few quid. Any recommendations?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Aldi and Lidl gear is basic but good value, and I expect to get a pair of salopettes there for around £20, if you have one local and can beat the scrum when they go on sale next winter. I use their motorcycle trousers as they do the same job. I think they have those in stock at the moment. They're probably a bit more expensive, but more hard wearing, and have a bit more flexibility in that the thermal liners can be removed if it's warmer.

Try Surfanic. You can buy online with free returns. They also have a shop at Castleford (Xscape). I'm a 34 long. You will struggle to find anything with variable length, so fit is all important. I am pretty sure these are the ones I bough last year http://www.surfanic.co.uk/mens-lockdown-mini-herringbone-pants-grey/ Currently priced inside your budget.

Are you close to a TKmaxx??

I think there's a tkmaxx in leeds, and we're close enough to there. I think we're going to Xscape this weekend so I'll maybe check out surfanic.
Layne, do you reckon those ones are pretty hard-wearing? They look to fit most of my other criteria (look OK, waterproof, have two legs)...

Felonius_Monk, we've quite a lot of Surfanic stuff between me, the wife and the kids. Can't fault it.

Layne - one more question. You said you're also a 34 long (actually I'm somewhere between 32 and 34, but usually buy 34s in most things these days - some room to grow into!) - are your Surfanic trousers a "L" or "M"? Their size guide says "L" is 34-36 inches, so thought it'd probably be too big for me...

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Felonius_Monk, They are an L. I am quite a slim build. I am pretty sure I tried on the M and XL.
