Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Booking ahead for Banff 2014 in April...

...is it safe to do?!

Looking at historical snowfall Sunshine Village looks like it has pretty good snow normally in April.

Would be start of April.

We've never skied this late before but OH can't get any time off work next march so we thought we'd try a later trip and really enjoyed Banff this year.

Have heard that flights go up in price nearer the time so that was my reason for probably booking them early, in the summer at some point. Anyone know how much they go up by?

Other thought would be to wait and see if any last minute TO deals there; but then we wouldn't necessarily get one or accommodation we wanted ; plus I'm no good at waiting! Very Happy

I've been to the Banff area in early April a couple of times and conditions were fantastic. It'll still be well below freezing at both Sunshine and Lake Louise, and you can certainly expect fresh snow throughout the month at that time of year.

Where are you thinking of staying?

CEM, Have a great time! Was there for 10 days a few weeks ago; it was fab! Very Happy

ajpaul, thought so but good to hear it from someone who has been then! We'd probably go back to the Banff Aspen Logde; liked it and it was one of the few places that included breakfast (which was v nice!) so would help to keep cost down a little. Any other reccomendations?

MCL, Yep, you will be fine and you will miss the worst of the sub zero temps that can occur up around those resorts.

Have just come back from 2 weeks in Banff. Conditions were quite warm for the time of year, but still below freezing throughout the day on the hills. Lots of fresh snow almost each day giving great conditions over the 12 days we skied. It was very quiet as well apart from Saturday (when still no queues of any kind).

The problem now with trying to get late deals to Canada is that the TOs do not have the charter flights they had in previous seasons. It seems to me that the best prices are obtained by booking early.

Certainly if you can take advantage of free day lift pass deals (with inghams) you will save. People were shocked at the prices when they waited to buy lift passes in resort.

We have looked at DIY prices but cannot match the TO deals. We did find the Air Canada flights were way better than the Air transat flights which had been available in previous years.

We have skied in April in Banff and had good groomed conditions in the morning, but of course the snow softened in the afternoon,- but was never slushy. The upside of April in the Rockies is that of course the beautiful scenery is enhanced by the blue skies. Last year skiing went on well into May at both Sunshine, and Lake Louise.

We've been to Banff several times now and used www.americanskiclassics.com first time this year for accommodation+lift passes, cheapest we've ever found and great customer service

Excellent, thanks for posts.

saskew, will have a look into them. Used Ski Safari this year and they were really good customer service wise and we got days free accommodation and on the passes.

paul.kin, yes we were wondering whether it would have been worth saving some cash to fly Air Transat instead of Air Canada but from what I've heard think Air Canada may be worth the extra!

now must stop thinking of Canada for the time being and get ready to hit some of this fab Scottish snow this weekend! Very Happy

MCL, We have flown Air Transat a couple of times previously and they were satisfactory for the price they charge. the difference with Air canada was noticeable and we'll certainly pay the extra to fly with them again. We could have flown Air Transat from Gatwick but that would have involved further travel from West Yorkshire. Air Canada from Heathrow was very straightforward and a good experience.

MCL - we've always stayed at Brewsters. Really central, and it includes an OK continental type brekkie. You've always got the legendary Melissa's round the corner for something (a lot) more substantial.

MCL, You could have a try Canadian Affair. They do flights and package deals as well as early booking lift passes with substantial discount (40% or so?) - well the discount was there the year before last anyway. We did a package for probably £200 less than Inghams/Crystal for identical accommodation. Good service too.
