I have just returned from this event where myself and Fattes13 were the first racers from Ireland to compete in a Masters World Championships. From the moment we arrived until we left we were treated like absolute kings by the organisers, fellow racers, race officials and the people of Megeve. We were made especially welcome by the British Masters Ski Team who treated us as their own and we were encouraged to take advantage of every facility they could offer. All of Team G.B. had raced in Megeve before and the depth of their experience was amazing. For all the pre-race muscle rubs, boot cleaning, course reports and the roar out of the start gate as well as the hospitality shown to us I would like to say a massive thank you.
To Eric, Gilles, Wilfred and all the officials congratulations on the hosting and running of a fabulous event, no matter what problems cropped up ( like the 60cm of powder on the race piste the day before the Super G ) you dealt with it promptly and professionally and all athletes I spoke to commented on how well the town of Megeve treated all the racers (480 + ), supporters and coaches. We were treated to daily finish area lunch buffets of the highest standard, cocktails and a magnificent gala dinner throughout the week. Piste preperation, slip crews and course marshalling were of the highest order and from a start bib of around 150 in my races this was something I was especially grateful for.
All in all a fantastic weeks racing and socialising with my fellow masters from all over the world, Megeve will be a hard act to follow and the Irish Masters Ski Team are looking forward to next season already.

Scarpa, C'est fantastique mon ami ! The standard of all the racers and especially of the big nations was mind blowing but what was especially humbling was watching 3 ladies from the Japanese team racing down the finish shuss in the womens Super G, the youngest of the three was 80 yrs old and boy was she moving !

briand6868, sounds terrific. How old are "masters"? Or "mistresses"? I remember meeting a group doing a Masters event somewhere a couple of years ago. Racking my brains to remember where.

pam w, Oldest were in their mid 80s, and were bloody good skiers, the best men overall were in the 50-55 group, one just had to stand back and admire because the speed these boys were travelling at was just awesome !

Fattes13, My friend you are, without doubt the best Irish skier I've had the pleasure of sliding with ! Pound for pound ( and I'm not being a smart back bottom) I would say you're probably the best all-rounder in the country, lots are good at one thing or another but you set the standard in racing, instruction, coaching, free-style , all mountain and free advice. Respect to you my man, you've worked bloody hard to get this good.
