Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Piste basher accident

I know its not exactly PC, but if its 10 points for a child, 20 points for a pensioner, how many points is it for a snowboarder?

2 points - it's like shooting fish in a barrel, although there is an accumulator. You get 8 points for taking two 'boarders out at the same time, 16 points for three at the same time and so on. I must be worth about 2000 points given the desire 'boarders seem to have for taking me out ........

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Darwin award candidate for mine.

I have seen piste bashers out at 10:30am in Switzerland. No big deal, if you hit one there must be something wrong with you.

Best wishes for his recovery, regardless of blame. Whenever i see one running on piste i assume that the driver wont be able to see me so give them a VERY wide berth.
I wouldnt be going past it (i.e. faster) on a gentle slope in good conditions anywhere near those tracks whilst it was moving.

Not just an Austrian thing either, as i did see the occasional one in Morzine while slopes were open.

Agreed.

I have only skied one week each in each of four other countries than Austria, but I saw piste bashers out during the day in both Verbier and the Dolomites during the week I spent in each.

In Austria it is so commonplace that everybody should know to watch out for them, and you can certainly hear them coming from quite a way off.

50mph? or even 30km/h.
Hmm? Don't think so. These manage about 20km/h on the flat with a tail wind, that's 14mph for the elderly.

I'm in Solden for the season, between the telegraph and daily mail stories the only thing they agree on is he was drafting a piste basher and fell under it trying to get by, dumb move.
They are around the pistes all day sirens and lights going so hardly stealthy, if you can't hear them there's something wrong with you no matter how fast you're going.
It's unfortunate but if you put yourself in that position its an outcome that becomes possible.
