Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

IMV problem isn't good oldies working, it's demonstrating that bad oldies shouldn't be. In my field this is going to be an absolute minefield. Hopefully, most will be in a position to responsibly exercise the good sense to withdraw gracefully.

Been doing some soul searching over the last few days and wish to apologise to all you snowheads who tolerated some of the things I said, which in hindsight were wrong and mean. I do stand-by my opinion that the priorité system allows some senior instructors to continue teaching past their sell-by date, which cheats the clients and is unfair on the younger guys.

However I now see that this is the real root-cause of my other two specious arguments, which are only symptoms of this problem, not about age per se. Lack of fitness to do the job properly and assist in emergencies is confined to these same cynical has-beens; there are many fit vital people in their 60s justifying their place on ski-school who shame me with their level of fitness.

Also my fear of damage to the sport I love and the resort I live in, I incorrectly linked to age (and looks Embarassed ) rather than the attitude of that same group of selfish hangers-on. Some of your comments have helped me understand where my logic was wrong on this one.

So thank you snowheads snowHead , I am in danger of going a little senile myself up here sometimes so thanks for the reality check. Of course none of this excuses one member from being just plain rude - but it takes all sort I suppose...

shep, snowHead I was skiing today for the first time since injuring myself in January and there were loads of day trippers, as conditions were superb. Unsurprisingly most of them looked quite elderly - the others were working, I expect. When we stopped for a coffee three other skiers tottered in, making me feel positively juvenile. The third bloke could hardly totter, though judging by his faded one-piece suit he'd been skiing for 30 years at least.

I also noted an unusually high number of tots working 1:1 with ESF instructors - and was glad of that when one tot fell off the draglift ahead of me, and the moniteur stepped smartly off behind him and whipped him out of the track before I got there.

I am definitely getting senile; struggling to remember the names of some of the lifts I've been using for 10 seasons. wink

Glad you're back on your skis pam w Very Happy . I had a lovely ski with an 86 year old ex-client and friend (and holocaust survivor!) a couple of weeks ago. I've side-stepped the lift-name issue by never managing to learn them in the first place Blush Laughing

shep, I've been away from snowHeads for a few days, so I've only just read your penultimate post which is one of the most honest, humble and reflective that I've seen in a forum like this.

I assume that I was the one member who was 'just plain rude'. If so, I apologise - what I intended as lively banter seems to have overstepped the mark on this occasion.

Contrition all round.

Jonny Jones, Smile Apology gratefully accepted, and I appreciate I was asking for it. "Faenights", as we said in the playground!
