Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

"The world's most exciting ski tour is in British Columbia, Canada"

Alison Godfrey and News.com.au (of Australia) go into overdrive to extol the virtues of heli-ski-touring in British Columbia, where you can ski with guzzlers and grizzlies ...

[Not sure about that one - do you actually get money back if you don't - anyone know?]

Arno, agree but I still think it might be true. I once met a Californian tech multi-millionaire who was working his way around every decent skiing palce in the world. He'd done the Americas and Far East and was doing Europe. At that point he reckoned the Canadian heli-skiing was his fave. He couldn't speak French to save his life tho' and was a bit of pompous prick in a 'I'm hipper than you' way. And he had a pony tail and fcuked knees. So all-in-all I didn't feel really pissed off at the loaded, ski globe-trotting wazzock.

It's hard to imagine heli-skiing getting much more 'exciting' than AK, based on TR's like this (I've never been):

i spent 3 days with a guide around Whistler/Pemberton a couple of weeks ago. he guided for last frontier and said that really good heli days are few and far between and most of the time, routes were very much aimed at lowest common denominator. i don't have a lot of desire to do a week with a specialised heli operator now. if i wanted to blow a lot of cash on a cool canadian skiing experience, i'd hire this guide for a few days, tell him to find the funnest stuff available between Squamish and Pemberton areas and give him licence to organise helis as he saw fit

Arno, Heli ops around Whistler are definitely for the 4 Seasons and Westin crowd. I think some of the CMH tenures can be pretty good from what I've heard talking to guides and staff provided you self select a heli load yourself.

You do see a lot of punters exhibiting decidedly punterish skills in their 1m ft CMH onesies however.

I suspect that a trip to Kamchatka would help. Bears, volcanoes, and suspicious old Russian helicopters. What's not to like?

Forum software just looks for an image file suffix in the URL. Your web browser is told by the image server that the URL is for an image, so doesn't need to see a file extension.

Looks like a terrible place to go heliskiing though... you'll use up all your uplift in no time on a mountain like that wink

I feel entitled to be an inverse snob about CMH onesies as the only reasons to wear them are

a) to show other "ordinary" skiers how fabulously wealthy or accomplished you are to have done so much heli skiing or
b) because you're a cheapskate, despite having paid for lots of heli trips you don't buy something else less ostentatious.

By definition they're only handed out as a status symbol.

I personally wear a one-piece, so would only be interested if they are fart tags.

You don't Little Angel

If you stole the image and re-uploaded it somewhere else you could give it a friendlier name. Nothing short of that (or some sort of admin intervention) will fix it.

In 38 years, CMH has had 11 fatalities. I don't know how that compares to other operators. To get a fair comparison, you'd have to compare the number of skiers to the number of deaths. CMH operates multiple sites and is both the largest and the oldest heli operator in the world.

As for the comments about the piece being hype for BC, with 95% of the world's heli skiing and arguably the best powder on the planet (Japan may dispute that but the terrain in Japan cannot compare), BC has a very solid claim to being the best place to heli ski.
