Just like the title says
Any advice?
Hubby and I are looking for a late season long weekend break and have pretty much decided on Flaine. Preferably something nice, close to shops/restaurants and easy to park a hire car?
Anyone??

Farry, I've got an apartment in Terrasses d'Eos that is empty after Saturday 6 April. At this late stage I am prepared to be flexible on dates of arrival and departure. Google Flaine Montsoleil for general info and if you're interested PM me.

Farry, The Totem is being converted in to apartments so no go, you could try the Cascades its in the Flaine website, they do short breaks. If no joy in Flaine itself try Les Aroles in Les Carroz they also do short breaks.

Erm, sorry to ask another Flaine question but can anyone recommend a reasonable private transfer company. So far I'm thinking it's GoMassif but can't find any reviews of them?

Farry, I've never heard any bad feedback from people who've used GoMassif. However, for 4 days you might want to consider hiring a car. If you're flying into Geneva it's just over an hour's drive to Flaine. Although there is a charge for parking there is free parking available opposite or just up the hill. Tolls are about €3.50 each way and petrol will cost no more than about €25 for a modest car. There is always a big argument about whether to hire from the French side or the Swiss side but I'll leave that for others! You can also save money on food by stopping off at Carrefour in Cluses on the way through. Whatever you decide to do have a great trip.

Thanks. Having looked at transfer costs with Go Massif and hire car costs the hire car is much more expensive!

Go Massif did a great transfer for 2 of us in January . They were on time for both pick ups no hassle at all. Would us them again.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Farry, That surprises me. Holiday Autos can do a small car for £105 from Friday to Monday. Go Massif appear to charge €80 each way for a transfer for 2. Don't get me wrong, I am not knocking Go Massif (2 good friends of mine are working for them this season) and a transfer is certainly a lot less hassle than getting a hire car and having to drive yourself. On these figures the price difference is probably marginal but the option of Carrefour on the way through is what always swings it for me. For a longer break I agree that the hire car option starts to become more expensive.

Might be worth having a look at the company linked to in my sig...no idea if they can help, but transfers is what they do.

Thanks. It would be Thurs-Sunday and we'd need space for the skis so the hire car cost is much more.
GoMassif it is. Thanks for the replies.

€80 to Flaine is daylight robbery - you can get to Val D/Tignes for that kind of money and that's twice as far.

A car allows you to eat at Restaurant St Vincent in Cluses. A fine experience. It's just round the corner from Hotel National (where I stayed, happily, a night) So many people rush thro there and never give it a thought. Looks like an old warehouse outside but lovely white insida. I speak as 3 years ago( ah, time flies...it was 6 years !.)
