Snow's lying ultra-deep in the Glencoe gullies - over 4 metres in the Main Basin on 21 March, according to Winterhighland - but that was before the big storm.
This is one of the extra-high pylons in the Main Basin, extended after they were buried by snow in March 1994.

Three out of the five Scottish ski areas are now up and running: Glenshee, Glencoe and The Lecht.
Nevis remains suspended due to wind. Cairngorm are continuing to clear drifts and roads, and expect to open Tuesday.

In the 52 winters of mechanised skiing on Cairngorm, the White Lady has very rarely seen cover this deep.

Lighter winds and clearer overhead (though still some convective snow showers coming in from the East) mid-week, so get up and play. Early indications are now keeping more unsettled weather at bay for the first half of Easter Weekend with light or moderate winds, some sunny spells and a few snow showers.

I've never seen the snow this high, I don't think - it must be higher than the 2009 season? BTW Colin looks like the cat with the cream!

Comedy Goldsmith, perhaps they should make a ski-bridge over that access road so people can ski the good snow which regularly lies down that way.

Ok, so it looks like I might be able to squeeze in a day skiing in a week or so when I visit Glasgow on business. Glen Coe looks favourite distance wise - any reason to go elsewhere instead?

Tirol, Glencoe is my favourite resort, but it depends what you want from a resort. Glencoe has some great steeper, unpisted runs as well as some nicely pisted runs as well.

Never skiied in Scotland before, just wondered if anyone was of the opinion that the extra miles to Nevis (or elsewhere) were worth it. Is there likely to be much difference with queues (I will be there either Saturday or Sunday), snow, access etc. I'm not too fussy, missed out on the annual trip to the Alps this year and this one-off opportunity has popped up out of the blue.

Tirol, they are quite different to each other and it depends what you want. Nevis Range will be quieter and much of the front of Aonach Mor will be loaded with snow, having had so much blown into it by the strong ESE'lies and snow showers over the last week or so. That should mean every marked run there will be skiable and offer some wide open snow fields to play on to. It also has the bonus of the back coires if you and they are in condition. The easiest entrance into Coire Dubh (at Winger Wall) is on a par with a tricky Alpine black. The other two coires require more commitment, routefinding skills, safety kit and a skiing buddy.
Glencoe is rougher and livelier, it always has a good vibe and has a little of everything to offer most abilities except for rank beginners. Its biggest asset are its wild views and its wicked terrain which is lumpy, bumpy, rock and rolly. If you can imagine yourself in a New Zealand club field and don't go expecting to be mollycoddled with modern facilities and lifts, you'll have a great time

Tirol, if you want lots of nicely manicured pistes I'd head to Glenshee personally.....
Hence why I like Glencoe as moffatross says it's terrain is second to none without miles of pisted runs!

Tirol, there shouldn't really be an issue with queues in any resort, while all lifts remain open. The complete cover spreads everyone out

As moffatross says.
The Eastern resorts (especially Cairngorm) are where to go if you want longer, not too difficult groomed pistes, mostly with fences along their sides to retain the snow. If you fancy a bit of steep, ungroomed adventure off the back , plus some normal (but unfenced) runs on the front - then go to Nevis. (There can also be big views as far as Skye when the weather allows). Glencoe is small but full of character and variety and dramatic views. Currently (though not usually) there will be longer descents to the road.
I should perhaps mention that the Braveheart lift off the back of Nevis is often not open (if there is avalanche danger or low visibility - and especially when few people are there). In that case the back-corries runs cannot be skied full length without partially walking up again.
I will be going up the weekend after Easter and would hope I can find people interested in (mostly) exploring the off-piste - perhaps a day each in East and West. Some pistes too, though. Anyone interested to meet up please contact me.

Thanks for the comments, by the sounds of it my skiing is probably more suited to the eastern resorts but will head to Glencoe as it is closer and sounds like it captures the Scottish skiing experience.

Looking at Nevis they say "With wind gusts of 111mph on the Gondola Line the mountain has had a bit of a blasting, particularly in the Back Corries" and the mountain looks, from the photos, less snowy than a week ago.
Glencoe, however, seems to have been more sheltered by its orientation and they say "On much of the mountain the main named trails are almost meaningless, you can ride just about anywhere."

Just a wee comment on the debate above regards East vs West, if your dithering about Glencoe because you want some wide pisted stuff, then fear not! For greens Mugs Alley, Old Mugs Alley and the Low Road are pisted to many machine widths and skier packed powder beyond that. THe Main Basin and Happy Valley are virtually one, so there is lots of groomed stuff too and quite a few fairly gentle unpisted options to start exploring on.

With the forecast for further snow showers over the next couple of days then high pressure building over Highland Scotland through Easter Weekend, with light winds, then quite simply, come get some!!

Winterhighland, can I ask, there was a huge late season storm a few years back, it was when we saw skiing in June I think at cairngorm. Is this recent storm better then the one I'm talking about in terms if snowfall. I remember watching the access road being cut out and the snow pretty high, but I don't think it was as high as it is right now?
