Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Swiss Air Skis included in baggage weight?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
OK so i will be traveling heathrow - Zurich this weekend, and will be taking skis with me - I can't see to find a definitive answer if the weight of the ski equipment (skis + boots + helmet) are included in the total 23Kg baggage weight? - my main concern is that my equipment in its bags come to about 13Kg (don't ask - there may be just happen to be two sets of skis back to back rolling eyes ) - which once you take into account my bag weighs 4Kg - that leaves me less than 6Kg for clothes and other stuff

so for those that couldn't be bothered to read that.... Do Swiss air include the weight of ski equipment in their total 23Kg baggage weight per person?
thanks Very Happy

oliverracing, absolutely definitely your skis and boots are in addition to your hold luggage allowance. It's been discused on here at length and sometimes people think it's hard to find the answer on teh swiss website, but it is there in more than one place. I don;t have time to provide the link for you but trust me!

I flew Swiss air lhr to gva last week, 2 of us, took 2 skis in 1 bag and 1 skis and 2 sets of poles in other bag. Both of us also had big hold bag, they said we could have put a boot bag in hold as well. Lovely plane, well looked after

thanks for the info - I'm not sure i'll risk it though, as i would prefer to pack slightly lighter, than the chance of a 50 euro fee

Lufthansa charges €100 per direction to carry skis to North America and back. Within Europe they're great. Transatlantic not so much.

you need to have skis/boots/poles in a separate bag to benefit from the 'additional weight'

I single bagged it in December and got stung for an 'excess baggages' even though the ONLY reason I was over weight was the skis, boots, poles which put the weight closer to 28kg.

 You know it makes sense.

oliverracing, just flew back from zurich with swiss , was told a check in my ski bag was over weight at 23 kg ( which was what came out from manchester ) they said 15 kg was the max, but they allowed me to fill a back pack with the excess and check that in f-o-c rolling eyes go figure Toofy Grin
