Poster: A snowHead

The small Swiss ski resort of Sattel-Hochstuckli (south of Zurich, east of Luzern) puts itself on the map this winter with the world's first revolving gondola cabins.
Unlike the Rotair 'revolving' cablecar at Engelberg - the floor of which revolves, not the entire cabin - the 'Stuckli Rondo' lift at Sattel-Hochstuckli has gondola cabins which revolve completely, from a roof-mouted axis point.
The lift was built by Doppelmayr-Garaventa, with the cabins made by CWA.
Here are the details from Doppelmayr-Garaventa.
The project website (in German): Stuckli Rondo
The lift/piste map for the resort involved: Sattel-Hochstuckli
Any revolutionary snowHead willing to ride this lift would be warmly praised for filing a report!

David Goldsmith, The same "revolving gondola" effect can be achieved by going OTT on the apres -ski the night before

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

HHHHhhhhmmm - just one more thing to go wrong. Who needs a panoramic view when the windows will normally be steamed up or scratched to boggery within a few weeks of it opening. Technology for the sake of it. IMO.

Well, err, the Rotair cablecar above Engelberg (which looks to be a similar design) pre-dates it by at least 12 years:
T-Dub, did the floor rotate ... or the whole cabin?

Blimey, now your asking!
The gondola system was in 2 sections, above teh middle station it rotated, below it didnt (or at least hadnt)
Mrs Dub and I are pretty sure the whole thing rotated.
It was brand new.

I sincerely hope the single rotating pin has been designed with adequate margin of safety.

Why? Doesn't this mean they are more expensive to build and more things can break.

Skied at Hochstuckli today. The gondola only rotated on the way up. It's a bit weird in fog to suddenly find yourself facing downhill when you started off facing up! Very comfortable though. Breaking through the fog gives a nice view stretching to Rigi. Not really in the same league as Titlis but a fraction of the cost.
Calling it a "resort" is a bit strong but it is a nice little locals ski area. Very good for families. The beginners/kids area is away from the main skiing. The main t-bar goes from 1200-1500m and the pistes are quite wide and well prepared going up to red in steepness.
We put the kids in ski school/ski kindergarten for a couple of hours. Total cost for 3 kids - 61 CHF!

You know it makes sense.

neilswingler, thrilling to read a user experience. I thought that was a real long-shot when I launched this thread!
Certainly these little local areas can be perfect and uncomplicated for a family.
