Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

You don't need a Toll Sticker ('Vignette') if you turn off the A8 autobahn in Germany before Salzburg and take the route over Siegsdorf / Lofer / Saalfelden / Zell am See. If you choose an alternative route (e.g. via Worgl) then you'll need a Vignette, but it only costs a few Euros and can be purchased at the autobahn services before you enter Austria.

Kaprun is a charming village (definitely nowhere near being a city) and your lift ticket will also cover Zell am See. As the temperature has risen over the last 2 weeks, the best snow conditions will probably be on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier above Kaprun, as you'll be well over 2000m in altitude. The snow cover this year has held up really well, so spend at least one day skiing on the Schmittenhohe in Zell am See, although the lower slopes are definitely going to be slushy in the afternoon. Zell am See is much more of a working town than Kaprun, so there are shops, old fortifications and narrow streets to explore - and of course a large lake with a popular promenade.

yariv_har, Yes, all gas stations close to the border sell these stickers, but they are only compulsory for the motorways. Price for 10 days is about 8 euros. But Munich-Kaprun can be done without motorways.

On the A8 Munich-Salzburg you take exit 112 (Traunstein/Siegsdorf) toward Traunstein/Siegsdorf/Inzell/Ruhpolding, just follow the B306 toward Inzell (Germany) and next the B305 & B21 toward Lofer (Austria). At a certain point Zell am See will start appearing on the road signs. In Lofer follow the B311 toward Zell am See. Mind the speed trap at Weißbach bei Lofer!! In Zell am See, follow the B168 toward Kaprun. You would only need a sticker when you intend to visit places like Salzburg or Innsbruck.

thanks to the comments, I think I'll buy the Toll Sticker, it's not expensive, and it seems that is the most fast and easy way to get Kaprun.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

yariv_har, You don't need the sticker if you follow the route that Penthht, and I have described, as you won't drive on any Austrian motorways. Exit 112 on the A8 is still in Germany, and after that, you drive on ordinary roads in Germany and Austria.
