....well, it has arrived. My partner bought me the latest Candide Thovex movie (following the brilliant shorts Candide Kamera 1 and 2) and I must say that it's good....very good. Available from the 'States as a Blu-ray DVD twin pack (expensive) it has a different format and feel to his two shorts, but gives a portrait of a modest and committed star of the sport. There's loads of commentary on how he got from his childhood in Balme to the big time - and all without the posturing and ego-puffing stuff which frequnetly characterises top flight performers. The production values are high, the direction solid, and a degree of quiet wit pervades the film. Well worth seeing.
....and as a footnote, after his L1 expansive fracture, he was advised 'no more jumping' .... so the film contains no jumping at all. Absolutely none. Nada. Nowt. Not a single bit of air....

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

I wasn't that impressed - I thought in relation to the trailer there was far too much "person x,y or z talking about Candide" and not enough of the amazing action footage/cinematography of the teaser.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

bobalexander1983, ...but I think the linking provided by the story works...I for one was interested in how someone moved into the scene at such a young age and shifted everyone's perceptions of what was possible. Sure there are people pushing now (the Young Finns) and the New Canadian Airforce was doing frontier stuff at the same time as CT arrived. But let's face it, Thovex gets BIIIIIG air.
No question he's an absolute legend of more than one discipline of the sport. But I'd rather have watched him doing what he does than see a biographical history of his career. Perhaps my gripe is more that the trailer is misleading about the contents of the actual film...
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

If you edited together all the skiing shots in that 4:11 youtube film (excluding deer, grass, digging latrines, wolves, caribou, terracotta army of snowmen!, empty mountains etc.) and then showed it at normal speed you would end up with about 20 seconds! The boy can certainly ski, but....all a bit wanky for my taste.
After all it is free

...what's the significance of him slicing the top off the giant snow willy?
