Poster: A snowHead

Hey guys,
Has anyone been here?
http://www.skiplex.co.uk/indoor-ski-slopes.aspx
I'm thinking of either brushing up on my skiing or learning to board here.
Seems good that you get 30mins continues skiing/boarding in an hour.
I have been on a dry slope before and found it quite hard compared to real snow.. Im sure that’s just my poor technique though

Sambo, not sure where you are but the new surface at Snowtrax near Bournemouth is the best dry ski slow surface I have been on and I would certainly consider there if it is close enough to you.

OP no they are not. In answer to you question, yes you have to be good to ski well on plastic as it picks up all faults

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Agree with NickyJ, & Cynic, proslope and dryslopes in general are far better to practise technique on, especially proslope if you board. Domes are generally very good for practising collision avoidance. skiplex might be ok for boarding but I'd expect half of the time will be spent just getting used to the concept itself.

If Britain's top skier can look skittish on skiplex I think that's not a ringing endoresement.
dryslopes are quite hard mainly because the friction is totally different from snow but skiplex is hardly going to help there.

It doesn't really look like the edges bite into that stuff at all, when I see someone doing good slalom turns on it I may consider it as a training tool since you could set up cameras from all sorts of angles.

I am guessing that the 30 mins continuous skiing is because you don't spend 90% of the session queuing and using the button lift to go back up the hill.
I might have a try at this as it is so close to me? Zit 1 needs to try out her new boots, so this could be the perfect excuse.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Sambo, in answer to your question, yes other people have done this. There was some pretty vigorous discussion on this thread. If you read it you'll find some fairly strong opinions .
I used something similar when I was a beginner and found it useful. It was great for fitness, as it was one long run rather than lots of short ones, and having the instructor right next to you is great for feedback. Skiing down a treadmill does take a bit of getting used to but once you get started it works quite well. All of the other options have their pros and cons and none of them is quite/anything like a real mountain.
